What the article is basically saying is that white, conservative Americans, as a whole, basically consider “great” to be “back to the Jim Crow-era days” along with a combination of “fuck liberals/minorities”, even if it means fucking themselves over in the process.

Many white, conservative Americans, particularly boomers, often mention the 1950’s as “the good ol’ days”, but those “good ol’ days” were only good if you were white, male, christian and straight. Anyone who was missing any of those categories (women and minorities) had it shitty as they were very much oppressed, but of course these MAGA-shits don’t care; they’ll vote against what is good for America and themselves (desegregation, civilized healthcare, decent wages, a solid retirement, etc.) as long as it hurts the brown people. Basically scorched-earth selfishness.

@MethidMan
I guess it goes to whether you consider a country which was prosperous and good for members of a pretty big category, but bad for everyone else, a failure or a success. (And add in that the people who like it tend to focus on the white male experience and ignore the rest for the most part.) Were people like “they themselves” so badly off then?

Is this a straight news article or an opinion piece? ’Cause that looks a lot like an opinion piece from the website Medium, if you ask me.

Also, the quoted post below is relevant, as it was posted in response to you promoting that same “news” article:

A prison employee in Florida who voted for President Trump argued that Trump is to blame for the current government shutdown.
“I voted for him, and he’s the one who’s doing this,” Crystal Minton told The New York Times in an article published Monday. “I thought he was going to do good things. He’s not hurting the people he needs to be hurting.”
Minton’s comments came as part of an expansive report from the newspaper on how the government shutdown, as well as a hurricane, have impacted a Florida town.
The Times notes that a federal prison in Marianna, Fla., lost much of its roof as a result of Hurricane Michael, which hit parts of the state last October. The damage caused hundreds of inmates to be relocated to a facility in Yazoo City, Miss.
Corrections officers from Florida have had to commute 400 miles to the site of the prison since then for two-week stints in their jobs. As of this week, the corrections officers are now doing so without being paid.
The quote came to mind this morning, reading a new article from the New York Times today on Jackson County, Fla., in the state’s panhandle, which was already struggling in the wake of Hurricane Michael, but which is now also feeling the adverse effects of Trump’s government shutdown. The piece included this anecdote:
A few miles away, another prison employee, Crystal Minton, accompanied her fiancé to a friend’s house to help clear the remnants of a metal roof mangled by the hurricane. Ms. Minton, a 38-year-old secretary, said she had obtained permission from the warden to put off her Mississippi duty until early February because she is a single mother caring for disabled parents. Her fiancé plans to take vacation days to look after Ms. Minton’s 7-year-old twins once she has to go to work. The shutdown on top of the hurricane has caused Ms. Minton to rethink a lot of things.“I voted for him, and he’s the one who’s doing this,” she said of Mr. Trump. “I thought he was going to do good things. He’s not hurting the people he needs to be hurting.”
I’ve seen plenty of memorable quotes from Trump voters over the last couple of years, but “he’s not hurting the people he needs to be hurting” is among the most striking.
It captures an amazing perspective: some Trump voters expected the Republican to punish some people if elected, but they assumed they’d be spared. Trump would hurt those people, the sentiment went, but not us.
But those assumptions were mistaken. Trump’s health care agenda set out to hurt many of his own supporters; Trump’s tax gambit ignored many of his own supporters; Trump’s tariffs are undermining the interests of his own supporters; and now Trump’s shutdown is making life harder on some of his own supporters.
Polling suggests many of these voters are standing by their president anyway, but it’s hard not to wonder how many will end up feeling like Pat LeBlanc and Crystal Minton by the time Election Day 2020 rolls around.

I’m sorry, the guy who expanded the Republicans into minority areas they never won before Whose most Trumpist propaganda outlets have been bragging for years that he is the best candidate for X group here. Sure there is probably a few racist and some more who are racially insensitive, but I do not believe that even a palurality of Trump supporters voted for Trump just to hurt racial minority groups.

>Trump did surprisingly well in Hispanic-majority counties in South Texas

Considering that a notable number of people in the Hispanic community lean conservative, this isn’t surprising to me.

>American Thinker

The webshite, of course, is chock-full of right-wing conspiracy theories, woo, and pseudoscience. On the conspiracy side, they promote birtherism, “creeping sharia,” red-baiting, and still occasionally prattle on about Vince Foster. On the science side, they concentrate on creationism and global warming denialism. The site’s wingnut credentials are commemorated with an “extreme” bias rating from Media Bias/Fact Check.
To no one’s surprise, the site is an exuberant cheerleader of Donald Trump, and regularly regurgitates right wing blather in the snotty, pretentious style of a typical conservative talk radio host.

>The Democrats, Not Trump, Are the Racists

As if I’m going to trust some site that uses Conservapedia to “demonstrate the liberal bias of Wikipedia.”

>I’m A Black Voter. Here’s Why I Pulled The Lever For Trump

I swear, every single black Republican (the ones who actually are black, anyways) talk about literally nothing other than how voting for an anti-black party makes them, “free-thinkers.”

I didn’t have much respect for you to begin with but you just struck rock bottom by showing what kind of sources you refer to.

I do not believe that even a palurality of Trump supporters voted for Trump just to hurt racial minority groups.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t fucking matter whether you, yourself, are a racist and sexist person. You made the choice to vote for an admittedly racist and sexist person, and you are directly responsible for giving that person the power to put his racist, bigoted ideology into action in ways that impact the entire country.
And it’s not like this is coming as a surprise, either - you knew he was a racist bigot when you voted for him. Do you think that his bigoted actions are going to be any less damaging because you personally aren’t a racist bigot? Your personal feelings and intentions mean fuck all in this situation. Your actions are what matter, and your actions supported a racist bigot.
Own your choices. You don’t get to help elect a hateful bigot and then turn around and get upset when people hold you responsible for helping to elect a hateful bigot.

Did you not see my phrasing?
Whose most Trumpist propaganda outlets

I fully recognize them as highly partisan sources. I’m just saying that those people on the core Trump diet do not have “Yay Minorities suck and should eat dirt!” attitude. They are constantly patting themselves on the back that they did better with minorities than before and have been feeding on propaganda not only says on Democrats are evil socialist but also suck for minorities as well.

To be honest I don’t think Trump’s largest group of voters (I don’t mean the tiki torch parade, but the bulk of the red hats) are so much against this or that minority as they are against liberals. “Owning the libs” has become the GOP’s driving force, and that goes through any leftist policy that benefits minorities, or against any sort of language or discussion related to minorities, as that’s all “liberal crap”.

It’s not so much about about “I want hispanics to be oppressed”, as much as about “fuck whatever it is those liberal elites are saying, we need to do the opposite to piss them off for thinking they can tell us we’re wrong or should change our ways”.

It’s why I’m terrified every time a “leftist” says something about science or the environment or basic human rights; chances are half the country will oppose it only because of who said it and start the ball rolling on a new wave of reality-denialism.

I don’t see how this is supposed to be a “victory” for someone like you, who just assumes shit about and generalizes other people in this thread and entire groups of people out in the world all the damn time, like MovieBob does, but you do you.

@Ereiam
So does this mean that you do agree with them on deliberately singling out one entire sect of a race and viewing them as being one, giant monolith (anybody that just so happens to be a white person, and a conservative) with no individuality, whatsoever, simply because of their own political stance that can actually vary between each other as individuals, or am I missing something, here?

If yes, then that seems pretty narrow-minded and assumption-based to me, fam.

Hey, I’m not going around telling people that they shouldn’t respond to posts that are months old in this thread as if doing so is against the rules like a goddamn police officer, but you do you.
Also, I have no problem with being on the receiving end in this thread, in and of itself. That being said, it doesn’t automatically mean that I’m going to lie down and not bite back when I am either not wrong about something, asking for proof of how I’m “wrong” about something, and/or criticizing the logic, semantics, methods, reasoning, rationale, generalizations, assumptions, sophistry, etc. that they use when telling me what I am “wrong” about, why/how I am “wrong”, the reasoning behind why/how I am wrong, and other shit like that.

Just for future reference.

What I want however, is for the country to burn because Weather Underground suddenly rises up from dead, then do a Potara Fusion with Antifa to create the single most deadly radical left domestic terrorist America has seen yet.
And then the Proud Boys, backed up by the good ol’ American Military, drives them back in an epic battle for Freedom and Democracy, all in the name and honor of President Trump, who was wronged during the election.

No. Stop. That is not okay, under ANY circumstances. Cease.
