Don't blame me, I voted for the other guy. (Politics General)

Even one of my Trump-backing friends seems to have finally ditched him — over something I find trivial, but I'll take what I can get. Of course as Brits, neither of us get a vote…

I know. You English have to worry about exiting the EU without a proper way of knowing how. BREXIT IS A STILL A THING!!!

I still support Brexit and hope the EU collapses. Power blocs are a thing of the past and localization of power is the future.

Like I said five months ago.

A treaty regarding the new relationship between EU and UK is supposed to be drafted by October 31st, so they can ratify it before the end of the year, but negociations are still desperately stalling. The only thing that's sure is that London won't ask for the transition period to be extended beyond that.

Meanwhile, the UK has already signed twenty trade agreements with other countries (and is still discussing twenty others) and published its new global tariff regulations (which would also apply to the EU once the transition period is over in absence of any other agreement).

Still, the current uncertainty doesn't bode well for the British economy…

This, the election isn't who you want to be elected but who do you hate less. If Biden is able to stay hidden away long enough he'll probably win

The Blob™️, the real controllers of foreign policy in DC, are the ones instigating a lot of the policies against China, and will continue to do so regardless of who’s president.

Is it because of Trump, conservative Boomers, and police brutality?

I honestly think that "SJWs" look so different from mainstream US culture, that they seem like a separate country.

Are you talking about why the Right hates the Left here? I have a theory that the Right named the Left as such because left is pure evil in Christianity… Maybe I'm looking too deep into it…

I heard someone say
"There is a common fallacy to think that, in times of crisis, people will move left economically, to get economic comfort: better safety net, social welfare, etc. What happens actually is that people move right culturally.

During a crisis ppl develop a sense of deep unease about who they are and what kind of world are they living in and that sense of unease is better addressed by parties on the right."

ngl I agree. And tbh I'm totally alright with it. I'm okay with the right wing addressing deep identity issues like: What is an american? What is the american dream? Who are the enemies, etc. because a strong identity can tolerate high amount of hardship. Muslims do that all the time, so I'd be hypocrite if I was to poopoo the right for playing the ID-Card.

I just want some socialist elements that ppl can fall back on. Giving everybody enough capital and opportunity to create a better life for themselves is beneficial to everybody, including the capitalist class. It makes mistakes less punishing for ppl who aren't super wealthy.

For example: Ppl with a load of capital could make two three four failed businesses and just make another one. Ppl without capital on the other hand has one chance and if it fails usually their only option is employment—and without a strong union they risk getting exploited thus their potential for growth, snuffed.

Actually, the left-right political divide dates back from the French Revolution, when the National Assembly had the supporters of the king sitting to the right of the assembly's president (considered as the places of honor), to set themselves apart from the supporters of the revolution. After the Restoration, the divide was cemented between anti-revolutionary ultramonarchists (right-wingers) and liberal defenders of the Revolution's values (left-wingers), with the moderate Constitutionals and independents in-between.
From then on, the right was considered as the "party of order" while the left was "the party of change".
Then, over the 19th century and into the early 20th, this terminology spread across the different parliamentary regimes that were established in Europe.

Apparently, its adoption in American vernacular is relatively recent (especially as Americans have long privileged the liberal-conservative dichotomy, "leftist" becoming synonym of "communist" after the Red Scare).
Ironically, in Congress, the Democrats sit on the right side of the aisle, while the Republicans sit on the left.
