These “county succession” movements are dumb beyond belief, and they can never, ever work.

Here’s why.

For a county to leave a state, it has to join another state. It cannot become its own state, as no new state can be formed out of the territory of another.

Secondly, it would take the approval of both legislatures of both states, and both the governors of both states. The secessionists would then have to hope that neither states AG takes the issue to the courts. If you somehow got the majority consent in both states, and survived any court battles, you still need the approval of the US Congress, a congress that would be loathed to do anything to fuck-up their expertly gerrymandered maps.

Listen, conservatives, there is a perfect way for you to get out from the “liberal” areas. You can move, as you all are so fond of telling others to do.

Or, more simply, to steal a line from ya’ll…Get out of my state.

I never did understand how America got to that stage, ’cause where I live companies are always trying to compete to convince you to join them, not to mention loyalty rewards and the such.

ITT: people who suck at economics.

To quote F. A. Hayek:
The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design.
The point being is that currently no system beyond capitalism can solve the information problem when it comes to economically efficient resource allocation. Socialism tried, and even with the best intentions it turned into a massive clusterfuck. Note that I’m not one of those people who says certain ideas could never work, but within our current paradigm and understanding, they don’t work. If an economy was run by a hyper-advanced AI that had the best information available, sure, I could definitely see socialism and even communism working as intended; but until said hyper-advanced AIs get invented, I consider their chances of working to be limited.

It’s one of the areas that I totally agree with Marx on: you do need an intense capitalism stage in order to get to something akin to socialism and the likes, because without it, how would the tools necessary to implement revolutionary change get invented? What would drive the put-upon proletariat to join together and overthrow the bourgeoisie? How would all the guns necessary for the revolution get made and then put into the hands of the proletariat?

Under communism there would be one. it does not solve the problem of monoponies or choice or independence but aggravates it.
less state, more freedom.
It’s always the bigger corporation that eats smaller, because it can afford all the taxes and workforces, it’s like a blackhole devouring all the surrounding matter, eliminating concurrency.
Governments corrupts the natural selection of capitalism. This is why you have fake news in most liberal/centrist media shared in 3, 4 huge corporations that all suck the dick of the establishment.
This is why you have a mafia of pharmaceutics with sealed and renewed patents the government protects, preventing an independent lab to make a cheaper medicine and this is why people die.
Even here in France where we supposedly have healthcare, there are treatments that are only partially reimbursed. This is why Microsoft and google dominates the market instead of better software.

All of this is just control and not freedom.

read Rand or Voltaire instead of posting my stuff on IRC like “Behold, ah debunked a fash!” and I’ll consider this.

Exactly, don’t consume useless things from corporations you don’t need. It belongs in /technology/ but essentially corporations now does in the big data, infringing your privacy and therefore private property for nothing.

I am sorry but if this is unironic, it’s straight up giant “disregard my opinion” banner, tho I believe you’ve done and said many things before this that is honestly accomplishes the same result, because even in hardcore right-libertarian and ancap crowd there are better theorists (not much of a hard thing when comparing to her but still) who aren’t on the same utter level of garbage and bullshit as she is, and I believe have far superior prose too

telling each other to read slecific books or papers while in a discussion on a forum is dumb.
Background Pony #3083
@byte[]
no but really, think about it for a moment. Telling someone to read a book or read books from an author as an argument or rebuttal is just kinda meaningless. Best case scenario is what? The other person actually orders the book, reads it, and comes back when the topic is over in order to discuss it. Of course, I’m not including recommendations that people make on the side, that’s different

A minor thing of note is in the “If the 2020 election for president were held today, whom would you support if the candidates are ___ and Donald Trump?” of that article, bloomberg and sanders are tied while Biden has a pretty marginal lead.

Ah, the classic bait to make the opponent look worse. Or something. Pretty sure there’s a more proper name then that, but whatever.

Virginia has been rated the 3rd safest state in the union, and we have the lowest recidivism rate in the whole country.

Pretty sure if Richmond just stopped existing, we’d become the safest state.
