Insulin is way more expensive to make and the demand is a lot higher.

The numbers for diabetes in America and opiod abusers are simply much different. A third of Americans will get diabetes.

You can be addicted to food too and that’s just one of many ways to get diabetes. It’s a much more common fate than using heroin. Most people get started on heroin after requiring powerful pain pain killers, but everyone eats.

Insulin still only costs like $3 a vial to make.

Even if you slap shipping and shelving costs there’s still no reason to make it cost a 2 digit amount, let alone close to/more than a grand.

Well narcan sits in cabinets waiting for an overdose, the demand for insulin is much bigger and more regular and constant, some people need insulin regularly if not daily, just so their organs don’t cook from hyper glycemia.

Drug abusers don’t abuse narcan, they hate it, it instantly kills any high and makes you violently sick. It is only good for one purpose, which is to save someone from an opiod overdose. This makes it very useful.

I’m not saying insulin shouldn’t be affordable, but the situation is different from narcan.

I mean there is a much higher demand, which is being exploited in this case.

Diabetes is a much bigger public health crisis.

No. That was a tangent. The fact that narcan only has one specific, rare job is why narcan is cheap and not expensive.

Insulin is constantly needed by people just to live, it has a much different demand. I will try to be more clear.

According to the NIH, the price for Narc an has increased by as much as 3797% due to limited use and limited competition.

And according to Mayo, the price of insulin is mostly driven by a small monopoly controlling a medication people need to live so they can charge what they want.

Yes. The 2 guys who discovered Insulin sold the patent for only $1 back in 1923 so it could become widely available through mass distribution. They didn’t have a factory to make the stuff on a large scale after all.

One can be price gouged, one can’t, one of 500$ one isn’t. The prices are not dependant on one another and the starting price means nothing.

I will be real clear, there is no excuse for the price of insulin. I’m objectively saying it’s more expensive solely because they can.

I say they can get away with this, which is not me saying it should be this way.

Ironically this might help boost Amtrak’s ridership. Maybe then there might be major reforms to the current railroad industry.

I saw a small news clip earlier. Something about Europe is starting to hate the US or something. I don’t know and I hope that’s not true because I as an American.
