After almost a month of waiting, basically all election results are in.
As had been obvious since the start, Trump won both the electoral college and popular vote. The only question was whether he’d break the 50% margin. It was touch and go for a while but the final answer is no, he missed it by .1%. He still won it by just under 3 million votes - or 1.5% so, uh, yay?
Republicans picked up 4 Senate seats giving them a 53/47 seat majority. They also go the White House so Vance can cast the tie breaking vote in the event 3 Reps in total jump ship on an issue.
And finally the one that’s been up in the air is the House. Much like with the Presidential race it was already determined a while back, the question was how far the lead would be. Well Dems picked up a net 1 seat, meaning it’s still Republican majority at 220-215. This is the thinnest margin in like 96 years so, uh, yay? The kicker is that PizzaGaetz has resigned, and 2 other are likely to go serve in Trump’s cabinet, temporarily putting their majority at 217-215 for a few months until special elections can be held for those 3 seats. They’ll likely go red again, but until then Reps have 0 margin for error when it comes to votes: a single defector means the legislation is stalled and any more means the Dems get the majority on the voteof course assuming every single Dem also votes along party lines.
