m8 Lyrabon was literally just an ongoing gag from storyboard artists they managed to slide under the higher ups’ noses; that they managed to sneak it in shouldn’t be considered some grand victory for “leftism” or whatever.

It got pretty overt toward the end - but i’m not complaining about it, it’s one of the things I actually really liked in the show. It deserved to be overt. It was done right, because it wasn’t meant as anything for leftism - it was just a cute lesbian couple happening to be part of the cast.

Would have been fun to see more of them, to be honest.

I’m not sure “The only way to do representation right is to have a minor contractor sneak it in in a one second scene using background characters” is a really great message.

But hey, people still get mad that the Buzz Lightyear had a gay couple kiss for more than 1.4 seconds and blame the movie being bland on “woke” and not that it was, well, bland.

Hey, i’ve been saying that they should have appeared more lol. Add ‘em to the mane cast, i’d be rooting for it at this point. Maybe do a few episodes per season with them doing stuff with SMILE. Didn’t realize they were snuck in, it took a lot of my attention in the last seconds - really awesome to hear about how that got added to the plot, honestly.

it’s hard to quantify what makes me like Lyrabon, but makes Sunny’s activism feel forced. Maybe it’s that they’re fandom-loved characters, and it organically emerged from scenes they appeared in. Maybe it’s that the relationship was subtly hinted at, and slowly grew until it became overt. Maybe it’s that bonbon is just cool on her own, and it gave her james bond vibes lol. IDK.

I noticed that there is a pretty big overlap between the “Modern movies/games/comics/tv sucks” and “Modern movies/games/comics/tv is WOKE!” crowd

There are multiple reasons why something was seen as bad, 100% of the time it’s not “wokeness/DEI/Sweet Baby Inc” or whatever (Like the suicide Squad game for instance. Multiple reports are saying it was bad becuase of the crunch going on with the dev team and how mismanaged the whole project was, SBI or “wokeness” had nothing to do with it, yet all the rage bait anti-woke grifters kept acting like it was bas becuase there was a pride flag in the Hall of Justice or that Deadshot was a black man)

I miss when something was seen as shit becuase it WAS shit and not becuase or some dumb culture war shit

I will enjoy a show I like regardless of whether it has gay characters; I just ignore them. I enjoy the show for the story and characters, not because it’s “diverse” and “inclusive.”

I don’t agree with that lifestyle, and I believe these themes should not be present in kids’ shows. Straight couples are appropriate because they represent what people naturally gravitate toward, and children are exposed to this through their parents.

If you think that a person’s enjoyment of entertainment is ruined because of gay characters, then that perspective is quite narrow-minded. These viewers may enjoy the show but feel disappointed that it was affected by what they perceive as “wokeness.” For example, many people stopped watching Doctor Who due to its shift in focus. There is a reason why audiences may stop watching shows like Doctor Who and others—it’s because they feel that social agendas are being pushed too prominently.

You feel like the type of person to pearl clutch over Metal music, I can’t imagine being the human equivalent of stale bread

Grow up, gay couples exist in the real world and their presence in a kid’s show will not affect that

Some people do gravitate toward gay relationships though, just as most people gravitate toward straight ones. It’s not necessarily something to disagree with, especially if it’s a victimless situation.

IMO the only real problem is if it’s a central part of the characterization. A character happens to be in a straight relationship (Shining Armor / Cadance) - fine. The character has their own thing (shielding magic / rule of the crystal empire), what’s not to like.
A character happens to be in a gay relationship (Lyra / Bonbon) - fine. The character has their own thing (music / secret agent stuff), what’s not to like.

Just, IMO, try to make it statistically believable (gay protag notwithstanding, then go nuts because the sample is innately biased anyway). If 4/5 relationships in the setting are gay, then what the hell is in the water?

Even if gay can be changed why should people be forced to change? Maybe they can’t afford or want kids. Maybe straight relationships come with baggage, so people that can do both go for the other.

There is just a big worker problem but making more babies won’t help, we already know they won’t get shit for resources.

Whenever I hear about people being radicalised due to stupid bullshit in media, whether it’s leftists saying they became anti-capitalist because their favourite game franchise added lootboxes or right wingers saying they became conservative because they saw a black main character in a franchise, I just assume they live upper middle class lifestyles and have room temperature IQ

There’s literally NO difference between a straight or a gay couple, other than the fact that one of them involves two men or women as opposed to one of each. And while we’re on that note, being trans or non-binary does NOT make you any less of a human than if you were cis.

Quite frankly, if a character being queer is enough to turn you off of a show/game, then all that does is show how much of a fucking loser you really are.

I should’ve brought this up way earlier, but here were my parent’s reactions when they heard the news about a pet squirrel in New York being euthanized by animal control after it bit one of the workers:

Mother: “Why did the owners have a squirrel in the first place? Isn’t it illegal to have a squirrel as a pet?”
Father: “Good riddance. Squirrels are pests.”

I still remember the time when “Finding Dory”’s teaser trailer came out and showed a scene with two women pushing a stroller. People were making a big deal about it because they thought Pixar was introducing a same-sex couple in a movie for kids.

That’s kinda what I think about us humans ngl.
