I’d argue that’d actually help Harris more than harm her given Biden’s abysmal popularity. There’s a reason her campaign is telling him privately to fuck off despite him and his advisors trying to force themselves into view.
Biden has been the biggest drag on Harris rn. The further distance she puts herself from him, the better.

If she were anyone else, sure.
But she’s the sitting VP. She still has to work as the VP for the next 3 months. Even ignoring the “throwing Biden under the bus” narrative that would flood the media, she’d have to contend with “how can we trust her to perform her duties?” narrative for actively campaigning against what her current boss is telling her to do.
She’s in a shit situation, everyone knows it, and they keep needling her hoping she lashes out and gives them something juicy to rip her apart over.
What company would want to intentionally harm and/or kill its customers in the absence of any regulatory state? Seems like a very bad business practice to me.
As others have said, companies will do whatever makes them money as long as they can continue to get away with doing it either through propaganda in fooling people into thinking it’s harmless and “just fine” (climate change happening because of Big Oil convincing the population that it’s either not happening or “just nature doing it’s thing”), hiding it well enough, or even just saying “Oh yeah? Well what’re you gonna do about it, huh? Huh?”
And no, “voting with your wallet” isn’t going to help because no existing company is going to switch to something else that makes less money, again, as long as they’re still allowed to keep doing it, and you can forget about any small fry trying to start a new company promising not to do the harmful practices, because, as others have also explained, little to no regulations make it harder for small companies to survive against the big companies.
@Meanlucario
You also have the great video game crash. Nintendo kind of served the role of government by introducing regulations like quality control and reducing the quantity of games. It’s why their absolute domination of video games in the 1980’s is celebrated rather than seen as worrying.
A thing I would like to see is the EU and US governments setting up game studio according to their ideals which are liberalism and social democracy. I think it would be interesting to see games made outside the capitalist system. They can help set quality standards and maybe also make a tidy profit for the government.

People comparing this election to 2016 need to dig back a little further, back to 2008.
I was reading back through old polling data over the last decade, and I noticed something.
Minority candidates seem to always been underestimated in the polls. Obama was underestimated in his first campaign against McCain, only for him to win a comfortable victory. More recently, senator Warnock was underestimated throughout both his special election and full election. You see this pattern repeatedly throughout recent election history. A Minority candidate winning by a larger margin than their polling predicted.
I’m starting to think that Trump has, ironically, become “Hillary” in that his assumed dominance in the polls will evaporate on election day due to his opponent being underestimated due to systemic issues with polling.

Harris is now going after Trump for his
“protect the women whether the women like it or not” quote from his Wisconsin rally.
Maybe not the best strategy on Trump’s part to continue to alienate the group that is making up the lions share of early voting.
Meanwhile most MSM is keeping Biden’s “gaffe” in bold type above the fold on their newspapers while barely covering what Trump is doing at all.
Meanwhile in a CNN interview, Trump transition Co-Chair Howard Lutnick said vaccines cause autism and floated a plan to “yank them off the market.”

Yeah, that was pretty oblivious of mine. Sorry.

Protect them from what? And why?

Interestingly, there’s been a freakout from Trump supporters worried about the large number of women early voting.
This is weird, because women have been the largest voting bloc for a while now, and we have no idea how many of them are voting for Harris. Given how women also were the biggest voting bloc in the 2022 midterms (right after Dobbs) and that didn’t stop the country from drifting rightward, maybe they’re just trying to turn the base out.
It’s abuser talk.
The intended messaging is “I’m going to protect you”, but the overt implication is the “…after I’ve stripped you of your right to protect yourself” subtext right after.
“I’m not going to hit you… right after you give me the password to your bank account, where all of your friends live and I’ve passed legislation to make sure you can’t ever get an abortion.”

Tbf, the women vote was why 2022 was what it was. Republicans turned in the worst performance of an out of power party in decades, and only won the house on the back of Gerrymandering and the Democrats failure to invest in New York.
And Dems performance in special elections, the VA off year elections, and ballot initiatives over the last 3 years has been on the backs of an improved woman vote.
So, Republicans actually have a right to be worried that women are coming out in force. Especially because of how well Harris is polling with them indicating that she has a bit of crossover appeal with right leaning and moderate women.
I saw one analysis that suggests she could win 60%+ of the national women vote. Which, if she did, she’d win every swing state and have a decent shot of flipping Texas.

The right wing trying to create another Garbagegate by going after Mark Cuban, who appeared on The View and remarked that Trump is “never seen around strong, intelligent women”, which for some reason they’re taking as an attack on female Trump voters, which it clearly isn’t.
The Harris campaign has been so gaffe-free that MAGA is going after people who don’t even work in the campaign to desperately recreate 2016 and make it seem like Republican voters are attacked. And it’s not sticking.

Meanwhile JD Vance was on Rogan’s podcast and he blatantly made up a story about being at Butler, PA when the assassination attempt happened. Hear it for yourself.
Also Rogan called Vance out for supporting Roe V. Wade being overturned and his views on women. Probably one of the few times Rogan was based here.
