Don't blame me, I voted for the other guy. (Politics General)

@BlitztheDragon
I’ve seen crypto currency. It’s user like to badmouth regulations while wanting the protection regulations bring whenever they’re rugpulled (which happens way too much). They have no one to blame but themselves for regulations coming in.
But also regulations make markets. There is this idea of markets existing naturally but they don’t. Markets are constructed by regulations. It’s just a matter of what regulations and who they favor. An unregulated market is not a thing that can exist, what it really means is a market constructed by it’s most powerful players who will of course rig it to benefit themselves at the expense of everyone else.
You can have bad and counterproductive regulation but there is no such thing as overregulation, just bad regulation. “Deregulation” just means shifting power from democratic government to oligarchic corporations.
Crypto is the closest thing to a real unregulated market there is and it just doesn’t work.

@Ereiam
Grifters and clout chasers who appropriate a popular movement within a certain demographic for their own benefits aren’t new.
but we sure are seeing a lot more of them more frequently, thanks to modern communications tech.
At least when hardcore IDF shills say or do socipathic stuff like, idk,
we know it’s normal IDF simp behavior because they’re fascist or fascist adjacent.
But when pro-palestine do self-sabotage actions, it’s harder to tell if malicious or just stupid.

So, I’m going to need another source here, but I’ve heard that a judge in Georgia has ruled that certification of election results is mandatory.
If that’s true, then Dems may still have a chance of keeping it blue.

Thanks to early voting, Jimmy Carter has reportedly achieved his goal of living long enough to vote for Harris.
Thanks but now try living long enough to another milestone. Your peanut farm in Heaven can wait a few more months or so.

It’s so weird seeing polls say Nevada is a toss-up in the presidential race whilst Sam Brown is falling massively behind Jacky Rosen in the Senate race.
That requires a scale of ticket-splitting that’s unfathomable, yet the polls seem to be implying that. Are they not modeling for turnout properly again???

The most likely scenario in November is that Harris wins, but can’t get anything done because of the Republican-controlled Senate.

Might have a sleeper hit on that one.
Osborn, the liberal leaning independent in Nebraska, is continuing to lead Fischer, the vaguely unpopular incumbent in all but one poll (from a polling house with a slight conservative bias).
Republicans might end up flipping enough blue seats to take the senate, and then lose it if Osborn caucuses with the Dems.

As the Democratic Party moves right, using the GOP to justify neoliberal inaction, I see a way forward once the Donald’s been dumped.
The DSA has been doing some good work laying the infrastructure for a leftist alternative to the Democratic Party to emerge. But whoever takes up that task needs to dispense with the Green Party’s new tactic of “punishing the Dems in swing contests for neglecting their base.”
This hypothetical leftwing third party - be it Green, Socialist Party USA, Social Democrats USA, a revived Socialist Party or Socialist Labor Party - should focus their efforts on two targets:
  1. Races in solid blue states and big cities that are in zero danger of ever going to Republicans. The time of single-party Democratic rule must come to an end there, and this leftist party should put all their effort into creating a new two-party split with Democrats as the rightwing choice. Prioritize blue states where the Democrats are particularly shitty, like California and New York.
  2. Races in solid red areas, especially rural and ex-urban communities that Democrats have conceded to the GOP. There’s plenty of people there growing unhappy with uncontested Republican rule, and who would be receptive to a left-populist message a la the old Farmer-Labor movement and the Non-Partisan League. Something like what Osborn is doing in Nebraska - a pro-small farmer, pro-labor candidate that doesn’t have a (D) next to his name might be an easier pick for these folks. If the Dems aren’t going to try to woo these voters, then we will.
