Most donors care only about their specific issues. I get that fossil fuel donors are very rich, but hospitals and insurance companies shouldn’t be irreplaceable.

Last year, rightwing podcaster Tim Poole inserted himself into a 10th anniversary event being held by a DIY skatepark in Martinsburg, WV by announcing on Instagram that he was committing $20,000 in prize money to the winner and runners up of the event, all without the knowledge or consent of the locals organizing it. The skaters, not wanting his extremist politics associated with their scene (which he wasn’t even a part of to begin with), told him he was not invited to the event and would be removed if he showed up.

Tim was so offended, that he spent $850,000 to buy the land the DIY park was on. Though he hasn’t kicked anyone off the land yet and hasn’t done much with it (though he’s floating building a large proper skatepark), he is spinning this as a culture war victory for the right and a takedown of the left for trying to keep him out. Jeremy “The Quartering” Hambly compared it favorably to Elon buying Twitter.

The locals now mostly stay away from their DIY park, because they don’t want to associate with Poole or make the park valuable by using it or making improvements.

He has also bought a building in downtown Martinsburg with the intent to turn it into an “anti-woke” coffee shop, which will have Saturday morning cartoons for kids on the weekend supplied by The Daily Wire. It’s part of a larger plan to put money into the downtown to turn it into an “anti-Times Square.”

@BlitztheDragon There was a short blip where the Jesus freaks lost power, and “weird sci-fi-in-the-sky” types like Pournelle, McAfee, Newt, and Wardell looked to be taking over, especially after the thrashing the Neocons took for the Iraq war blunder! But then weirdly enough, the “second generation” of conservative technocrats somehow became their grandparents!

This also bizarrely happened in Germany, with one mocking phrase of the AFD I recall being “the party for grandpas and grandsons,” though I can’t recall the exact phrasing, so it wasn’t just a uniquely American phenomenon. The prior gen of free guns, weed, and prostitutes technocrats/libertarians/yarvinites gave way to stuffy social moralists retreading prior gen democrat moral panics. And they went also from “trusting in innovation” to “trusting the established data” which leads into the cargo cult AI worship.
They also went from despising Ray Gun for amnesty and gun rights issues to trying to emulate him! (Crenshaw especially) It’s a very odd whiplash from the areligious portions of the far right. Occasionally you see one who hasn’t gotten the memo blaspheming “the jew on a stick” (Varg, Heimbach, Linder, Gaetz before his sexting scandal) but they are quickly chased away or browbeaten into submission by the new “Anti Weirdness normalcy pursuing Right”
Basically it seems that The Moral Majority is back, baby! …even if a third of them don’t actually believe in Jesus or have ever picked up a bible. They just know LARPing as such garners automatic support in most states even outside “the belt”
It all feels and comes off as very inauthentic and dishonest. I am sure they justify it by writing silly essays on “God: the ultimate computer” or some equally schmaltzy title. It seems the “New England atheservatism wave” is well and truly over. A damn bloody shame!

He’s in a rough spot mentally. That shooting messed with him more than he’s letting on. Might be the first time anyone’s made him bleed his own blood. Plus he’s facing prison time, the loss of his company, and a fresh-faced political opponent who’s drawing bigger crowds and better poll numbers.

And on top of everything, the mayor of Palm Beach is looking into closing down Mar-A-Lago due to complaints from the community.

Speaking of Trump, he just said the quite part out loud and said that everyone having free healthcare is “Communist” and therefore bad

Democrats are using the old Republican messages of freedom and liberty from government overreach against them.

My takeaway from this article goes like this: Remember when Ronald Reagan campaigned on the idea that “government isn’t the solution, it’s the problem”? Well now it seems the Harris campaign is turning that old message against the Republicans, and with no shortage of legitimate examples. Boy, how times have changed…

So apparently in a campaign video, Tim Walz and Kamala Harris joked about Walz not being into spicy food, and making tacos with tuna and mayonnaise. While “white people don’t like spicy” is a stale joke for sure, it’s been made worthwhile by just how badly the big rightwing accounts on Xitter - including Ben Shapiro and Matt Walsh - are FREAKING OUT over it. They’re screaming about how this is proof that Democrats hate white people.
