I think it’s a little unfair to say that all this is a recent development. I’m pretty sure a lot of the stuff they’re doing now was stuff they had already planned out well in advance. After all, they had already been laying the groundwork for Biden’s campaign for months prior to his decision to bow out. Really the biggest change is just who the person running is. Well, that and the media no longer being able to relentlessly fearmonger over the only competent candidate being the oldest by a couple of years.

I feel very confident in saying they had nothing at all planned and scrambled when Biden dropped out, pretty much just lucking out on a few good social media trends catching on and the optimism of a “fresh start”.

Thinking it over, if Harris wins then this will be the second time COVID cost Trump the presidency.

Biden’s a stubborn old goat and only dropped out because I’m getting sick with COVID gave him a convenient method to drop out while saving face.

Ive basically come around to the opinion that the democratic establishment knew of Biden’s mental decline and decided to just “Weekend at Bernie” him till reelection because they thought the incumbency effect was a still a thing in this election and it was only until a) it became impossible for them to deny after the debate and 2) Biden was floundering in the polls and he shows no sign of recovery

The Dems should count their fucking blessings that Kamala managed to actually have some enthusiasm from the masses on her side somehow and that this situation didn’t lead to a complete crisis within the party

I dunno, I can also believe that Biden had Harris becoming the new running mate as a back-up plan for a while (given that he originally was planning to be a one-termer) and about a week or two after the debate started setting everything up for her while drawing flak towards himself as a distraction. The guy’s more cunning than a lot of people give him credit for.

There’s been several reports over the last 4 years of Harris’ growing frustration at the administration not having any jobs for her or for them to not be preparing her to take the torch.

So this isn’t some 4D chess move. Joe Brandon shit the bed and continuously rolled in it Until he went into septic shock (hey fine by him. As far as he’s concerned it’s just more nap time). It’s only by the best of luck that Harris taking the reins is turning out to be the best ending.

If you mean for the campaign, then I have to disagree, because they had been doing preparations for Biden’s reelection run for a while. I’m pretty sure Zincy’s mentioned more than a few times in this thread the work they did opening field offices and the like. Harris stepped into a campaign that was already in motion and the fact that it’s been going so well and hasn’t been chaos is owed to the fact that a lot of the infrastructure for the run was already in place, even though it had been intended for someone else.

He did multiple campaign events and a detailed foreign policy press conference following his bad debate. Hours before dropping out he was busy working on coordinating a seven country swap to free political prisoners from Russia. Those aren’t the kinds of things he’d be capable of if he was declining in the way the press was so anxious to have you believe. He’d be behaving more like Trump is pretty much all the time now.

Not exactly sure what you’re on about. First, her stint as a DA and a prosecutor is a boon instead of a prob this go around due to her running against a literal felon.
Second, while the leftist progressives might have been turned off if she went with Shapiro, the fact that she went with Walz instead has been met with enthusiasm among that crowd so they aren’t abandoning her over it, and the moderates just love Walz as a person so no electability lost there.
Lastly, have you seen Trump’s campaign these days? They’re failing to come up with any real substantive hit against the Harris/Walz ticket due to all the money and advertising they had wasted on Biden until recently. They might make up some of the money difference due to corporations throwing money at Trump (though if they think he’s going to lose, they won’t bother), the massive enthusiasm behind Harris cannot be ignored.

Let’s face it, Trump is a weaker candidate than he has ever been. Old, out of touch, half the time he’s barely coherent and often unable to actually answer the question being asked.
