@Background Human
The virus holds no political allegiance, and even if Hillary were president or Trump less of a moron, it would’ve killed a lot of people. My point being is that Bush had a choice on killing fuckloads of brown people, torturing them in black sites, spying on everyone, and every other terrible thing he
willingly signed off on.
What gets me is that
all the terrible things Trump did were started during the Bush years. DHS and ICE putting the screws to Latin-Americans? A Bush policy excused with
“muh war on terror!” More scrutiny of Muslims including American Muslims? Ditto. An abrasive foreign policy? “You’re either with us, or working for the enemy!” Little movement on social policies in America? Pandering to middle-Americans with a pathological fear of “the gays” and “socialism™️”. Bush’s answer to the uninsured was to “just go to the emergency room” and nothing substantive about preventative care.
That’s all horrible, but what’s obscene is how all the policies decried during the Bush years are now being brought back by the people who once protested them, and will be celebrated when Biden ramps up the surveillance state to help deal with COVID and “white/far-right terrorism” and austerity measures brought in because “the GOP sucks at budgets we can do better!”
All you’re doing is laying the groundwork for another Trump, except the next Trump will be a hell of a lot worse than the last Trump; hence why the last Trump will be rehabilitated and absolved of all their sins, just like Bush was rehabilitated and absolved of all
his much worse sins.
The left sees it. The far-right sees it. The libertarians see it. Only the Brunchite/Sorkinite liberals don’t see it, and is why they’ll be blindsided when it happens again, just like they were blindsided in 2016.
