Trump announced the nomination of Nathan Simington, who is currently a senior advisor in the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Simington “played a significant role in the agency’s social media regulation agenda,” as The Verge reported last week when news broke that Trump was considering Simington for the FCC position.
Simington would replace Republican Michael O’Rielly, who apparently angered Trump by saying that the FCC must uphold First Amendment speech protections “that apply to corporate entities, especially when they engage in editorial decision making.” O’Rielly’s comments signaled that he isn’t likely to support the Trump administration petition, submitted by the NTIA, that asks the FCC to reinterpret Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act in order to limit social media platforms’ legal protections for hosting third-party content when the platforms take down or alter content they consider objectionable.

Trump had nominated O’Rielly to another five-year FCC term in March but withdrew the re-nomination after O’Rielly’s comments. Simington’s nomination would need approval from the Senate. O’Rielly could serve on the commission through the end of 2020 if the Senate doesn’t act on the nomination before then, but he would have to leave if Simington officially gets the job. O’Rielly’s FCC term technically expired in June 2019.

The revolving door that is the Trump administration spins again as the president turns on one of his picks for not licking his boots hard enough.

Tech companies are super biased and need regulation now. They have been given plenty of chances. If not stopped they will take over all meaningful discourse. Rules needed!

This is great. Tech companies are monopolies and need to be either broken up or heavily regulated (remember when the left used to hate those? I guess they’re ok if they support you enough!)

Perhaps your mental model of conservatives is actually a grotesque parody produced by overexposure to leftist propaganda? Maybe you shouldn’t hang out with actual communists who keep posting “memes” about killing us, and actually expose yourself to real arguments?

@Latecomer
Case in point.

It’s easy for us to forget that while we are constantly exposed to your ideology through college, megacorporation propaganda, and our own disgusted fascination with examining your history, most of you have never even had to read a conservative newspaper before.

Don’t labor under the assumption that a person upon whom you foist a political label necessitates they believe such as you pin to said title. People are rarely politically pure in my experience.

Or perhaps it’s based on how Trump and the GOP in general keep ranting about there being too many regulations and harp on incessantly about how awesome they are every time they remove regulations that were made to protect the country, and more importantly it’s people. Who knows!

Of course it’s all a sham; they only want deregulation in the economy (like environmental protections or product safety) and any political aspects they know they can easily exploit, anything that could go against that should be regulated out of existence.

No, here we have an individual whom you refer to as Conservative stating that they believe tech companies are biased and in need of some form of regulation lest they themselves regulate free speech out of places commonly used for discourse, and yourself seemingly vexed by some perceived incongruity due largely, I think, to a preconceived notion of what a Conservative ought to be.
That is to what I was referring, not the President of the United States.

Thank you for illustrating my point. You can’t even describe your opponents without tripping some automatic propaganda circuit and regurgitating Daily Kos blog posts whose content you substitute for investigation and analysis.
It’s like a protective cloud of ink, except you can deploy it so you don’t have to see things that might make you question the beliefs you’ve been given.

Ah, so Trump and GOP, ie. the representatives of American conservatism, being heavy into (selective) deregulation is actually a leftist meme, a charade, a ruse, then? It’s all made up and all these things they’ve been doing and saying never really happened?

Or are Republicans not actually conservatives, or more importantly the ones in politics and government that represent conservatives, and that conservatives vote for?

His opponents is a the one who pushed regulation that screwed different communities with stuff the 1994 crime bill and NAFTA. Then Kanye West…what is he running on?
Currently people want law and order due to riots hurting multiple communities. Both candidates condemned it. So what actions have they taken?

Are they publishers or platforms? Do they get to decide that only people they agree with can have a presence on these massive platforms? Do we allow big tech to influence politics how they see fit? Important questions as these platforms are becoming the main debatefora. Remember the Youtube executive on hidden camera admitting what they are up to. As a centrist with a conservative slant I value democracy over all. And it is in danger with these massive corps taking over all opinions.

Trump doesn’t really mean it.

Remember this under Trump’s watch as President.
Chaos, Covid-19, the Economy fell. The nearest thing for Trump to do now is try to shut up and listen to these protesters which he didn’t do if you forgot. He shoot rubber bullets at them and tear gas just so he can take a picture of himself carrying a bible. So yeah.

The last time protest doesn’t involve shooting a 2-year old black girl, destroying small business, firebombing police cars, destroying churches, and looting. Plus we now know these rioter are from out of state and quite rich or position of power such as Clara Kraebber who is a rich kid, Collin Mattis and Urooj Rahman who are lawyers.

A theocracy is a government based on and ruled by a particular faith or belief.
A secular state would be closer to what you describe.
