I mean they suck at keeping corporations in check but that's not solved by giving corporations more power.
But I do get what you mean. There is this tendency to view capitalism only in the ideal theoretical scenario of how it's supposed to work. Not the complex real world of power, local markets, imperfect humans, assymerical power, propaganda, inelastic markets and many other things.
I have had it often when I criticize some aspect of capitalism people lecture me in how capitalism is supposed to work. I know how it's supposed to work but the textbook of high school is not the real world.
