Found "an article":https://www.vox.com/22410713/lumber-prices-shortage about it: it's apparently a combination of the lumber industry having ramped down early into the pandemic, expecting demand to decrease with the economic activity, and the opposite happening with people at home going into a home improvement spree and the housing market bouncing back faster than expected, while the supply chain found itself unable to catch up fast enough to make the difference. Add speculators on top of that to take advantage of the rising prices, and boom.
