The short hair bit I’ve heard people infer from 1 Corinthians 11:14, which calls it disgraceful for a man to have long hair. Although what’s considered long and short changes with time and culture so it’s not like we should be imagining him with a buzz cut or anything.

Carpentry is also a physically demanding job so you’d expect him to have some muscle.

Yes but was there any record of anyone saying it?

For example, despite having very little visual art of the prophet muhammad, there IS a detailed description of muhammad’s physical appearance in the hadith collection including:

-neither brown nor white
-neither tall nor short
-had broad shoulders
-broad pecs
-flat stomach
-strong arms
-long neck
-thick, long black wavy hair, going down to just above his shoulders
-would part his hair in the middle, or wear it braided.

Have western artist been mistakenly drawing Muhammad all this time? It certainly would be hilarious had that been the case.

Carpentry doesn’t necessarily mean muscly. That would mean that a large portion of people in the past were literal bodybuilders, since there were a lot of farmers, ranchers, smiths and carpenters; all of these are physically demanding.

The fuck are these vague descriptions? These could literally mean anything. I mean, I can’t blame them since racial differences and metric system weren’t discovered yet (or at least not that well made) but that’s such a weird way to say “He’s just average but stronk”.

Means he was of average height. He didnt tower over the average men nor was he too short that ppl would notice.

He wasnt brown enough to be called a dark skinned arab, nor was he white enough to be called pale. He was ’Arab, everybody knew he was arab, so it wasnt that he was racially ambigious tho.

They seemed to prefer saying things in roundabout ways like that. Read hadith and seerah and you know how they regularly use via negativa, metaphors and hyperbole, my guess is to invoke emotions.

Reason being? Oral traditions. Muhammad’s crowd in the 7th century didn’t write things down so they had to rely on memorization, and they were good at it. One way to memorize is to tie emotions or story into it. Excitement, awe, sadness, anger etc. Easier to remember what you were excited about, than the same information delivered in a dry, matter-of-fact manner.
