I get a lot of calls from different scammers a lot, but luckily my caller ID identifies them as scams. However, there are a few times where it looks like a legit number, but it’s a scam anyway when I answer! Like come on LG, step up your game! You have one job!

If you are creating those kinds of calls, there’s actually a text field where you tell the calling software what your number is, so … hypothetically speaking … if I was in a distant country and wanted you to pick up the phone, I would tell YOUR phone that my phone number is your number with 2 digits changed in the last 4 numbers.
That’s not LG’s fault. It’s an exploit of the underlying premise of how the entire phone system works.
Because, believe it or not, when all that stuff was invented and the coding for it was done we assumed people would be honest about it and that the existing laws would prevent crooks from taking advantage of it.
