I don’t understand fighters when they swing their fists around, they let their chin high up completely exposed to possible counter punches.
Heh, that’s funny

I’m not sure whether I’m millennial or Gen Z (no, really, each group tells me I’m part of the opposite group) but I definitely more than know about NASA.

I’m a fan of simple 18-year cohorts. Boomer = 1946 to 1964, Gen X = 1964 to 1982, Millennial = 1982 to 2000, Gen Z = 2000 to 2018.

Of course, I also think the whole “generation” thing is stupid and advocate for more granular divisions. As an American, I prefer four-year periods—the length of a presidential term. A “millennial” is going to have a very different mindset depending on whether their first election was Bush v. Gore, Bush v. Kerry, McCain v. Obama, Obama v. Romney, or Clinton v. Trump.

I’ve heard conflicting evidence that millennials either end at 1995, 1997, or 2000. I’m ‘96, so I’m right on the edge, but older millennials tend to say I’m gen Z while zoomers tend to say I’m a millennial. Seems like there’s no way to win.

But yeah, I also agree that generations are a stupid and overall arbitrary concept to divide people.

I think it makes sense to group people based on some of the earliest major events that shaped their understanding of the world.
“First US President you had some kind of semi-valid opinion on” is a pretty good metric. “What’s the first controversy and the first world event you understood?” is another. Because I have a clear answer:
Harry Potter and 9/11, which point to a very specific point in time, and a distinct cultural context.
@DerpyFast
Perhaps. To answer both of those questions, my first political memory was my toddler self going to bed on the night of the 2000 Presidential election with my parents believing that Al Gore was the clear winner, and then waking up the next day to mass confusion and disappointment. But maybe that’s a topic for the politics thread, IDK.

There’s a video I watched recently about the differences between decades and generations as terms referring to specific periods of time.

In my personal opinion, millennials are people who were born but still minors at the dawn of the new millennium, so 1982-1999. This would include me. Thinking about it further: Gen Alpha is anyone who was born between the releases of the Donkey Kong Country games on Switch. Gen X is anyone born between the first releases of Scooby Doo and My Little Pony. Boomers were born between the deaths of Adolf Hitler and Buddy Holly. Not sure how the rest fit in…
