You ever just lie awake a night wondering about weird shit? Like why people say “go fuck yourself” as an insult, when all that really means is “go masturbate?”

2000s/2010s internet was peak internet, and nobody can convince me otherwise. There was a real sense of community back then.
Yeah, some ignorantly say it was worse because people could “say whatever and get away with it,” which isn’t true, because if some troll said something racist, or something equally nasty, we would just mock or ignore them. If they got out of hand then we’d ban/block them.
We didn’t care what people said back then, unless it was reeeeaaaally nasty, or very very illegal.

What I do miss is the community and unification it used to have. People back then could be friends with those of different religions or political affiliations, nobody cared what you were as long as you wanted to talk about games, movies, art, or whatever. People on all sides felt more open minded back then, and there while we had drama it was never as bad as today.
I also kinda miss the days when people didn’t know what furries, bronies, and such were lol.
@Beau Skunky
Of course you would, lol.
What’re you saying? :P

I mean, I can’t help it that I was born in 1998 and didn’t get a chance to experience the marvels of 2000’s Internet forums or early websites in general. It isn’t like I can go back in time and convince my parents to conceive me in say 1990 or something so I can come of age during those early Internet days. Plus, it’s the same thing as Baby boomers and Gen X’rs saying that the modern generations are always online when they used to always be outside and play with their friends, so really, ever generation has its “advantages”. I’m Gen Z and I can say that we’ll have advantages over Gen Alpha where we can say we experienced the days of social media sites like Twitter, Instagram and Tik Tok instead of having micro implants of the Internet in our brains or something.

No need for the tirade, man. I’m not saying that Gen Z isn’t without its advantages as well. We all have our ups and downs, and that includes generations as well. Hell, the most important thing to do no matter what age you are is just try and be grateful that you’re alive!

Yeah sorry, that just hit a nerve with me since I’m not a fan of the whole “back in my days” thing.

I’m sure the early days of Internet forums was fun though, I’ve seen videos and screenshots from those days such as Geocities and they looked fun enough. I do get the sentiment that modern connectivity doesn’t have that same “wow” factor as before and I agree that nowadays it’s gotten nastier and nastier on the Internet

That’s all I’m really saying, that certain things have gotten nastier on the internet over time (such as politics, but let’s not get into it).

I do kind of look fondly on the days of Geocities, but compared to what I saw as the years went on, that site format was quite primitive, and I do appreciate that technology marches on no matter if for better or for worse.
I do like some Gen Z stuff - selectively mind you - so I’m not a total old curmudgeon. Gen Z memes? Good stuff. I’m pretty well up to snuff with most of it not only because of the internet, but also due to the fact that many of my co-workers on carts are Gen Z. Can’t say I’m really ready yet for the Gen Alpha stuff though. My brain hasn’t rotted enough :P

It’s like that one Mike Tyson quote that Sear loves to brings up: “Social media made y’all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it”

When I first started using the Internet, this was around 2005/2006 when I was around 8 years old and it was always flash games on the Cartoon Network site and going to Glitter Graphics to see old gifs and watching YouTube back when it had the “YouTube Broadcast Yourself” tagline so I do have some vague memories of pre-2010’s Internet. I didn’t get a chance to see GeoCities or Newgrounds or even MySpace since I was too young and I didn’t venture that far into the Internet. But at least me and you can join forces and dunk on Gen Alpha with their Cocomelon and Skibidi Toilet :,)

Fellow Gen Z-er here. Never really had much experience with the internet and what it was like prior to 2006/07. Most of my early memories consist of religiously playing Club Penguin (this was BEFORE Disney ruined it, mind you), and sneakily watching YouTube behind my parent’s backs.
I also had this weird obsession with just browsing through Wikis for hours, just absorbing as much information as I could on the things that I was into at the time.
My only real regret is that I never knew what emulation was until much later on, and by that point, the computer I used had degraded to the point where the damn sound couldn’t even function properly.
