I remember he was legally obliged to do this movie because he broke contract on another project which made the studio lose a lot of money. He was pretty much being punished in a way.

And yeah, a sequel was planned for Cat in the Hat but Seuss’ widow was so appalled by the first film she forbade anyone from disgracing her husband’s work any further.
