I have a question for you about Christmas Sleigh Rock. Is it possible when the time the song came out, that’s what rock music was like (or at least seen as)? I’m not as much of a music expert as you, so I’m seeing if my theory holds water.

If so, then perhaps, but by that point there was already heavier and faster rock music. Chuck Berry and Little Richard had broken out, Elvis was in his early years, and even a song that “Jingle Bell Rock” references in its lyrics, “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and His Comets, was faster. Like, listen to this solo. This is early guitar shredding without any distortion.

So even in comparison to other rock music at the time, “Jingle Bell Rock” was weaksauce. It was more jazz or country than rock. And the fact that it was written (or at least co-written) by two ad men makes it feel even faker.
