That line always kinda confused me.

Tatooine was still a Republic world, and while it was a Rim world it fell inside a major Republic hyperspace trade spine. The Triellus Trade Route ran through the sector it was in (Arkanis) and the Corellian Run bordered very close to the system. It also had major Republic corporations that ran mining and salvaging operations on it.

Credits would still have been very useful, Watto is just an idiot.

Hot take: the 3D series > Tartakovsky’s. I don’t care that the later iteration of Grievous didn’t measure up to how badass the earlier one was; 2008 clears 2003. In fact, OP Grievous left us absolutely spoiled.

Not “outside their reach” per se, just “ignored unless exploitable”. The Republic maintained a presence on Tatooine, mostly through corporations. And traders came through from the major trade spines in the sector.

It did mostly get ignored though. Even when a lot of the Arkanis sector joined the CIS, Tatooine was just sort of left sitting there.

Watto could have easily put the credits to use on traders coming through. Particularly since one of his main businesses was selling salvage.

Remember the golden rule.

The CIS was fundamentally right, the Republic was a corrupt, inept, broken system ran by power-hungry bureaucrats. And the Sith Grand Plan only worked so well because it was a cancer that took over an already dying body.

The seeds of the CIS were planted long before Palp got involved, and before the corps were brought in.

If Palp had not be in control of the whole shebang, and if the corporations had not co-opted the movement, the CIS would have 100% been the good guys. And the Jedi should have ultimately sided with them.

Well as Shmi said “The Republic doesn’t exist out here and we are left to fend for ourselves.”
Even though it’s on a prominent trade route and in fact seen as a gateway to Hutt Space hence part of being Hutt controlled it didn’t have much in the way exploitable resources like Naboo and it’s delicious delicious plasma so the Republic didn’t give a shit about the oversized dust.
So let the slugs run it and establish what the economy is and set the rules the Republic has thousands of other worlds that have actual important shit that flows back to the Core Worlds.

The Hutts had a powerful, warlike galactic empire at one point. Before the “Hutt Cataclysms”, a series of events that left the Hutt homeworld barren and lifeless and turned their stars into a white dwarf and a black hole.

After that, a majority of the Hutts reorganized and took on a different form of empire building. Starting the “Kajidics”, massive cartels formed on a quasi-state religion built on a combination of the superiority of the Hutt race, and the expansion of Hutt interests through organized crime, economic leverage, and slavery.

How to make this New Jedi Order movie about Rey work.
Have her find the secret child Luke had.
Hell make it a daughter who’s Rey’s age and have them hook up even.
That last part is probably the least likely thing to happen since as fans of The Owl House well know Disney are fucking cowards about that kind of shit.
