It’s actually a mistranslation. In older games, the names were shortcuts to save space, and “shell” got mistranslated as “shellfish”. Something that really needs correcting IMHO.

A lot of things in Pokemon are mistranslated. Double Slap is actually called Round Trip Slap in Japanese, basically loop slap or multi-slap. That’s why it slaps more than twice. Same goes for Double Team which is actually the same name as that Shadow Clone move from Naruto which of course means Shadow Clones. Tail Whip is actually called Tail Wag which is why it doesn’t do any damage.

So that explains why Captain Pikachu did that Shadow Clone jutsu move in Pokemon Horizons. It was just Double Team!

Well I guess just like how Native Americans are sometimes called Indians, it’s too late to change the names now. It’s ingrained into pokeculture.

Yeah, I don’t know why the subtitles decide to translate things literally now but a lot would probably make more sense now.

I find it strange how I love Salamence but find Charizard just meh.

I was never a Chamander line fan. I preferred Cyndaquil line.
