The gym leaders… I do not find any of them visually appealing. They look like they’ve been scooped up from the trashiest batch of NPC designs.

Also, boyish looking girls and femboys have been in Pokemon for a long time.

Remember Bugsy from gen2? I thought that guy was a girl at first.
And Frontier Brain Anabel, the gen3 version of her. In fact, Ash and his group thought she was a guy until she brought it up at the end of the first episode of that sub-arc.

There was another guest character in the gen4 anime, Angie, whom they thought was a boy.

And a much more recent example of a femboy, Goh. Whom I wouldn’t be surprised if they originally planned him to be a girl.

People are acting like this is a new thing for some odd reason.

oddly enough, Bugsy scyther in gen 2 remake is a girl to probably to poke at people who didn’t know Bugsy was a guy.(now if I could only remember if I mistaken Bugsy as a girl?)

I know I haven’t; name seemed masculine to me at the time. I just never recognized how well he could pass for as a femboy back then until I was older.

I think there has been several other femboys in the franchise I might have missed.
