As far as Zoom goes, I imagine it being the opposite of Stall; A Pokemon with Zoom always moves first in its priority bracket.

I was thinking that it gives a speed boost to both the Pokémon and its partner when entering the battle.

The main question I have is whether stuff like mega-evolutions (Idea of Cynthia with a mega_Garchomp scares the crap outta me), and the new Mons introduced after gen4.

We have no idea, they referred to them as “Faithful remakes” in the announcement trailer, and specifically mentioned going on your adventure with “all of the pokemon in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl”
 
So people are doubting if we’ll even see any pokemon beyond gen 4, but eh, who knows, I’m not sure if they’ll have any reason to exist if they don’t have anything new in them, Fairy types will likely exist if nothing else.
