Outside of trying a handful of new things, it’s not that great. Again, Black/White was the series’ peak since it wasn’t going for nostalgia or handholding, and had a great story.

Gen 5 is usually considered the best gen. And it does have flaws like the rest of the games.

The picture of the Vulpix with the scarf and eyepatch I posted a few days ago reminds me of an interesting question:
Do Pokemon with permanent injuries or scars retain them after evolving? Pokemon don’t just grow bigger, they literally transform into new bodies, sometimes growing entirely new limbs or other appendages. And I thought, if they can grow new things, could they regrow parts they’ve lost?

I think they would. I forget what it’s called, but real life animals do change their bodies under certain conditions, which is akin to pokemon and evolving (much more than evolution), and they retain their scars.

That’s an interesting question, I’d probably go ahead and say “yes” what’s the point of “evolving” a new stronger body if it’s just as invalid as the previous?
going into other franchises, in Doctor Who, when The Doctor would regenerate into a new incarnations, it would remove any impairments the previous body might have obtained, so why the hell not?
If they can change entire species while evolving I’d say they regrow lost appendages
