Ding ding ding, we have a winner! I’ve delved into wuxia and xianxia novels for my fantasy because I’ve grown quite tired of EVERY fantasy story being set in something closely resembling Medieval England.

Is it so wrong to want to see an actual black person in these light novels?
 
Right now might not be the best time, however. Unless a black author wants to write one, for a more authentic tone?

That’s a difficult question.
 
It seems like there’s only three options for a black character nowadays, if written by a black person:
 
Overly preachy, ‘hilarious’ caricature, or completely indistinguishable from a not-black protagonist.
 
By the way, the word you want ain’t ‘authentic’, it’s ‘ethnic’.

I’m interested in the black gal being mistaken as a dark elf. A bit interested, but I’m honestly tired of race being talked about. Then again, it a fantasy novel.

I think I understand what you’re trying to say, but I think that you underestimate how one can talk about race in a fantasy series. I think dark elves being a thing in this series may lead to them being the black people equivalent.

I think the biggest problem with Monster Musume no Oishasan is the name. When people hear the name Monster Musume no Oishasan, they automatically dismiss it as being a ripoff of Monster Musume. In reality, Monster Musume no Oishasan is more in line with Spice and Wolf.
 
I honestly think if Monster Musume no Oishasan had a different name, people would be saying it’s the anime of the season. It’s that good.
 
Seriously, please watch it. It is so good. You need to watch Monster Musume no Oishasan. It is so well-written and clever.
