It wasn’t really a film either, it was a 2-episode OVA (home video exclusive) anime, which is why it wasn’t exactly a high production “movie” look.
 
Though, it looked nice to me, and I like old 80s anime.

Maybe? To me, that’s debatable.
 
I’ll give it this: It has a very nice tunnel animation in the scene with the big robot with a cape.

I dunno, comparing it to a Miyazaki movie to me is like comparing a Nicktoon, to a higher production, and higher budget movie.

I wonder what’s gonna be the plot of the movie now that we have a voice cast announced

If I have to take a wild guess, I’m assuming it will be a story inspired by some details from Wrecking Crew, Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros, but with a big emphasis on Wrecking Crew.

So considering that Illumination is working on the movie I figured they might just use the original designs of the characters but then I thought that they have their own style of animation so the designs may resemble characters from their other works  
 
 
 
 

I really hate Illumination’s designs. But the fact that many people do is enough for me to shut up.

Illumination’s designs aren’t the worst designs that I’ve seen. It could be worse.

Again nintendo is involved So I dont think we have much to worry about with designs

I was gonna say it was a missed opportunity to have John C. Reilly be the voice of Donkey Kong, but I suppose he would end up sounding too much like Wreck-It Ralph.

True, admittedly I would’ve prefered him as DK.
 
Wonder if he’ll sing like the old DKC CGI cartoon. Though, with Jack Black voicing the Koopa King, a rock balled by him would be hilarious.

Yeah, Nintendo is usually obsessed with keeping Mario characters on model.
 
They were very picky about Bowser in “Wreck-it Ralph.”

also Seth Rogan as DK. Hmmmm Well if he’s just doing Monkey Voices is good enough. If not then, oh no.

Also, he fails to notice some of the new cast aren’t white… (Toad for example) And that crack at the end that “only he can make the script work” is painfully egotistical… (Even if he’s half joking.)

Wedding Mario has the most uses out of any amiibo.
