Actually, it’d be cool if there was a game where Ganon’s army actually taking over the world was an ever-present threat. Like you have towns and villages, and they periodically come under attack by a bunch of Moblins, and if you don’t run in to save the day, the town gets sacked. Areas controlled by Ganon’s forces would look more like Zelda I, with civilians hiding in caves and being generally unhelpful. And you could take a town back by beating the monsters there, but they would still need time and resources to rebuild. You could also have quests to build up a town’s defenses or secure trade routes between free areas. Just make it a whole thing.
Imagine going into some big tough dungeon, finally beating the boss, and coming out to find half of Hyrule has fallen while you were in there.
