I made a terrible, but wonderful mistake.So, I discovered a camera app that translates Japanese, and another app that fixes up Japanese grammar. Now, I can go through and translate a lot of the porn I had that didn’t have scan-lations, and never have to wait on a scan-lation again.And holy hell, some of the stuff I’ve been missing. Knowing the dialogue is important to one of my key fetishes, and now a lot of stuff that was old hat as had new life breathed into it.

Because of Pixiv, I’ve basically memorized the Japanese characters that spell “amputee”.

When I combine it with other apps, and a basic understanding of Japanese sentence structure, I can get very coherent lines.Until they throw in some Kanji, then everything goes out the window. Hiragana or Katakana works great, Kanji is a mess.This has also taught me words in Japanese, fun words like explode, burst, and help.

I also now know what screaming looks like in Japanese.
I mean, I always figured what it was since it was the same character repeated over and over.
Fun fact, the language can do fun things due to slang and grammar.For instance, a single space in a common line in inflation art and it changes from them yelling about stomach pain to them yelling they are hungry. As I found out during my efforts.
The free camera translator app on the Google store, coupled with Google translate, and a list of Hana and Kana characters. It takes time, effort, and a little trial and error, but it worked.
Be warned though, Kanji will be your bane. The apps don’t pick them up well, many of them are coloqulisms, and there are too many to look through lists. Thankfully, most porn artists seem to stick to the common character sets. Apparently Kanji is a dying art anyway.

Ah, I think I have that app. It only seems to work with neat, computer-typed hira/katakana, not scribbly handwritten styles (which is unfortunate but understandable).

I found that adjusting the contrast can help.
That’s also where Google translate and the list comes in. The app does most of the leg work, and you use Google and the lists to fill in the rest.
Two things. This is totally Chinese Room kinda shit, and professional translations are much better.
And two, it is for the profoundly bored. It took me 4 hours to do a few comics. I did it out of sheer boredom, and I’m someone who is amused by slowly changing an unintelligible thing into a form I understand. I do data analysis for a living, after all.
For most people, it may be too boring and tedious to do.
