Since you’re too scared to reply, I’ll try my best with no information from you: It depends on the DM and campaign. If the DM is doing a casual game or one-shots (adventures that take place in just one or two sessions), a lighter backstory should be fine. If it’s more grand or the DM wants to incorporate you backstory into the adventure, that have something you are comfortable with them using. Ask your DM what they want from your backstory and start from there. The Player’s Handbook (PHB) has pre-made backgrounds you can use as a base for your character(s). I hope this helps you.

Ohh…I’m hoping for a certain creature to be in. Backgrounds can really help. Often online games also need some help. It’s good that there is a site that has a good reputation for this

Here’s a house rule I’m going to start using: after rolling initiative, everyone rolls an Intelligence check. The highest result is multiplied by 4, and that’s how many seconds the party gets to discuss strategy before the fight starts.

Also got to try out the rules for tactical combat, and they worked great. The players had a great time with strategic positioning before the fight.

So, my homebrew is taking a few pages from Darkest Dungeon. Specifically, instead of normal combat maneuvers, you make a regular attack, and your attack gains a secondary effect in exchange for doing less damage. For example, an attack might do 25% less damage, but push a target by 5 feet if the target fails a save. I’m thinking damage penalties will come in multiples of 25%.

So what I need is opinions on how much of a damage penalty you think each secondary effect is worth?

Remember, there’s nothing wrong with playing a character of a difference sex or sexuality than yours (unless you are being creepy about it). Play what you are comfortable playing.
