I just watched Pixar’s Elemental, and I’m gonna be honest… I liked it.
I don’t really get why people were calling it bad or how it was a box office failure (outside of people just boycotting Disney lately) cause this is as good as any other Pixar or Disney film. Now can the racial allegories and stereotyping jokes be a little on the nose? For sure, and is the story already the same as Zootopia? Also true, but going in I was expecting it to be way worse and push some woke agenda that’s been ruining their films lately;
the movie was fine for what it was, it was cute, the characters were understandable with their motivations and I didn’t hate any of them, the animation is absolutely breath taking to look at, the music was nice, some of the jokes weren’t too bad, and I at least didn’t know what to expect when watching it so I was invested in seeing how it was gonna come to an end.
Spoilers: I liked that even though Wade evaporated do to the heat inside the inclosed space, Ember was able to bring him back using the crying game from earlier in the film so it made for a nice call back and wasn’t completely outside the realm of possibility.
Also Wade and Ember ended up making for a cute couple by the end of the film.
So overall I say give the movie a chance, if it’s not to your liking that’s understandable, but I don’t think it deserves the backlash it’s gotten nor do I think it should be responsible for Pixar’s failure (I mean it’s not Lightyear bad).
