Beats Michael Johnson, who is arguably the most inconsistent fighter to ever compete at that level, still got rocked and almost put to sleep.
Got beaten up by Eddie Alvarez (lol), then destroyed by a real man, Dustin Poirier.
Came back and beats James Vick (lol), Edson Barboza (lol x2) then a 78yo Cowboy (lol x3).
Given an interim shot against a Tony Ferguson who had just cut weight twice, treats him like a punching bag for 24.5 minutes and we’re supposed to be impressed? Then tosses the interim belt on the ground and claims he’s coming for the real belt 😂
Gets embarrassed against the 155 GOAT. Gets a free nap out of it.
Beats up Bellator reject Chandler who has a glass chin, still can’t knock him out.
Gets another title shot, gets dropped and choked out like an amateur by Oliviera.

Dana makes it clear that entertainment is the primary driver in this organization and Gaethje so far has not had a snooze-fest whether he’s winning side losing.
What has he done achievement wise…matters a lot less than the show he’s given.

So I get it why UFC has been lately doing some backups for their main events.
Remember UFC 223? Khabib vs. Ferguson got cancelled and Max Holloway was immediately called to, then at the last 2 days he was medically unfit to fight and they almost ran out of options who to fight Khabib until Al iaquinta stepped in.
