So if you haven’t seen the show M*A*S*H, it was a 1970 movie and a long-running TV show from 1972-1983 about a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War. However, the series had very obvious subtext about the Vietnam War, which was still current when the movie dropped and during the early years of the show.
By comparison, we only have a pilot for the Lackadaisy show, but the Lackadaisy comic first dropped in 2006, which was coincidentally around the same time I first discovered that my mom smoked pot. And because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, it’s easy to forget that during the Bush administration, the War on Drugs was just as prominent. Drug crackdowns and drug busts were hugely ramped up, I distinctly remember even in my own open-minded school talk of how marijuana was evil or whatever, and I was genuinely afraid that I’d lose my parents when I discovered that they smoked.
Now, on its surface, Lackadaisy is about a speakeasy in the 1920s and booze and all that, but the larger point is showing how this violent criminal underworld, the one that led to the murder of Atlas May and the deaths and injuries of so many others (including protagonist Rocky), was directly created by making booze illegal—in the same way that continuing to keep marijuana illegal has continually caused way more problems than it’s solved.
And fun fact, in real life, right around when Prohibition ended, what was the new substance that everyone started fearmongering about and was eventually made illegal? Pot.
I don’t know Tracy Butler’s feelings about pot, but there are also other parallels I’ve seen with the War on Drugs in the comics, intentional or unintentional. And I feel it adds another layer of interest to the show and comic.

An argument could be made that an animated adaptation closer to the Comic would get more new fans into the series since while the Live-Action Movie is alright, it’s an abridged version of the series and we don’t get to go into depth with the characters. Also, it was made before the final volume came out and the Movie is over 13 years old. I don’t think having the anime be like the book wouldn’t hurt. One issue with the Takes off anime is that in order to enjoy it you’d have to see the Comic or the movie at least. I dunno if it’d be accessible for new fans.
However, I understand if Bryan Lee O’Malley didn’t feel like retreading old ground and wanted to do something different with the characters. I blame the marketing at Netflix for dropping the ball.

I heard about that and for some reason people are really mad about that. I haven’t even seen the movie and even I can tell it wasn’t meant to be anything more than a goofy Easter egg

Family Guy went downhill when the writers made the baffling decision to try to make Quagmire, the literal rapist, pedophile and necrophile, sympathetic.

Familyguy should not be considered a family show. It’s an adult black comedy about a retarded psychopath that parodies a family show. (he is retarded, i’m not disparaging the differently abled)
And yet they maladapted to being a political beacon for the whole family. Because of money.
If it wasnt a pseudo-family friendly show, the chomo necrophile rapist wouldn’t be an issue. Hell, lets make Joe a racists, lets have Chris doing drugs, slap that shit on Adult Swim after 9pm I would be like “fuck yeah”. But because its pretends to be a family show so well, its just shitty.

The name, the airing times, the demographic that actually enjoys it are all very sus. The fact it’s compared to the Simpsons, and the amount of kids sit in front of it.
It’s not a family show. I don’t think the makers would ever get caught calling it a family show, but they want people to think it, a lot.

I know you’re being sarcastic, but it’s done a lot to relate itself to the Simpsons, and nothing to hide itself from kids.
In fact at first it was almost family friendly, an edgier version of the simpsons, but it rapidly got darker and more shocking as a replacement for the family comedy it tries so hard to relate to.
Like that cool scene where Peter makes a gopro skate video. It was so well animated and cool, but then a bear violently mauls him in the end. They don’t know how to make a punchline that’s not shocking, and then you grow to expect it, so they have to keep making it more shocking.
It’s just money farming shit, be as vague as possible about who is susposed to watch it, and crank the shock value to the max. Atleast Rick and Morty is aired at night on Adult Swim.

Ok fuck, I don’t care what people think it is. It’s too much vulgar shit to be aired on Prime-time.
