Another Cringe Thread About Bronies in General. (Possibly NSFW)

So you’re basically saying bronies from 4chan are inferior to left-leaning bronies and shouldn’t be allowed in the fandom anymore? Yeah, I can’t agree with you on that. Gatekeeping is already something I’m heavily against, but saying the people who started the fandom are primitive bigots that need to evolve or go extinct just comes off as really ungrateful. None of us would be here if it weren’t for 4chan, and while you don’t have to agree with everything they say, you shouldn’t completely dismiss them either. There are always going to be assholes no matter what fandom you’re in, and trying to silence them will not only make them stronger, but will also lead to an echochamber that doesn’t allow any kind of dissenting opinion.

Uh, calm down, they are innocent in this case, and you are right about one thing, there will be assholes everywhere.

4chan is like the “Mad Father” of the fandom, I get it. Like anything, no sources of ancestries are perfect either, but I guess I should respect them more for whatever the hell they are as long as they are innocent.

the people who started the fandom

How many of those are actually still there on 4chan?

The first explosion of memes and people linking FiM stuff around may have come from 4chan, but it spread massively elsewhere fast, and it’s very highly likely that FiM would have gotten as popular regardless.

But, even if you want to accept the premise that the fandom owes its existence to 4chan, it definitely wasn’t because of /mlp/. Things kicked off on on /co/, which had a very very different culture from /mlp/, never mind how much 4chan itself has changed over the last 11 years.

So really, how many people posting on /mlp/ (or /trash/) these days are among those from /co/ that could be credited with “starting the fandom”? Why should those that weren’t be treated differently, like they’re owed respect, or their bad behavior and antics excused?

And even for the handful that may still be posting there, have they not changed at all? Have they remained “innocent” all these years, never falling into the behaviors that now permeate almost all of the site?

Oh… no wonder why they are rare to be found nowadays.

EqG is the most damaging one. I, as a Twispike shipper, if I was a fan before 2013, I wouldn’t be here as well.

Nah, porns don’t really do much damage as canon stuffs that can piss people off. Besides, filter exists.

I actually would make the argument that /mlp/ and therefore 4chan’s influence upon the fandon is still quite significant and a major part (but not the only part) for some cultural differences. Right now though I don’t have time to lay that out ||or the fact that the influence goes both ways ||

and it’s very highly likely that FiM would have gotten as popular regardless.

It’s possible that FiM could’ve gotten somewhat popular but I don’t think it would’ve been the phenomenon it is without /b/. Memes and captions would be born on 4chan, and then spread out as they were copied onto other websites. /b/ was spammed with ponies, and therefore, EVERYWHERE was spammed with ponies.

I don’t think that bad behavior should be excused or them deserving special treatment. I come at this with more of a cultural and heritage angle with this sort of thing though and think that we all share a lot of DNA.

@Egil
From what I recall, though there was a purest faction of channers who were anti-porn, porn was more associated with the “4chan side” of the fandom with the “squeaky clean” Equestria Daily tier people trying to avert there eyes and pretend it didn’t exist (sort of) and the earlier lefties types trying to actively fight it sometimes though this would look very weird and you’d find conservative Christains, early social justice types, and apolitical/others sometimes collaborating loosely on it.

@Background Pony #FA86
4chan doesn’t. It has separate boards, blue “safe” boards and red boards that allow NSFW to be posted but it in practice is very complicated. /mlp/ for example can be totally inconsistent, with a wide allowance of porn green fics, but no porn pics, and the line for too suggestive being ill defined.

I was already in the fandom, and seeing memes on multiple forums and games, well before the spamming started on /b/ or the global ban. 4chan isn’t the only place that has people with the creative genius necessary to add text to a screencap.

From the start, most channers were anti-porn as it was “furry”, and the few artists that posted porn on the board were either trolling, or were already into doing any sort of r34 and knew nothing of boundaries.

It wasn’t until /mlp/ was spawned and ponibooru changed its rules to allow NSFW that that sentiment changed, given at that point the majority of the “channer” fandom were new and not around 4chan when the fandom was spawned, and just gravitated there because it was the most active chan (efchan, 413chan, and stevechan were dead or ghost towns, and ponychan had too many boards and rules and quickly became a shitting-on target for /mlp/).

Even so, /mlp/s obsession with being anti-furry has lead to the harassment and dropping out of the fandom of many furry artists that did pony, or pony artists that started doing furry or too much anthro.

Equestria Daily ran borderline NSFW art roundups for its first two years, and it really wasn’t until the tumblr harpies started crying about icky bronies invading their safe space that those went away.

I don’t think that bad behavior should be excused or them deserving special treatment. I come at this with more of a cultural and heritage angle with this sort of thing though and think that we all share a lot of DNA.
My point is there is no heritage. The people on /mlp/ now have nothing to do with the people on 4chan that could be credited with spawning the fandom. People saying that /mlp/ should be given more respect or slack because “the fandom came from 4chan” are wrong, both because it didn’t, and because nothing excuses the sort of bad behavior people from that board have become known for (at the expense of the majority of the board, possibly, but still what its known for).

The guy who resided on Derpi earlier, then left, announces his come back to this site.
As far as I know, he’s known for tracing someone else’s art (I fell victim of that once), drawing his sona shipped romantically with minor characters (not just MLP), and even mocking someone who died of cancer by saying they died of COVID-19.
And whenever someone calls him out, he treat that someone as an “enemy”.

Before people start reporting someone for something they did on a different site, or reporting someone because they think they might do something in the future here, that one person you’re talking about has actually done everything we asked of them. We told them they couldn’t be here if they kept breaking rules. Result? They stopped breaking rules. So, as much of a problem as they are on other sites, they have kept their drama off of this site and haven’t broken our rules since we talked to them.

I don’t know if that will be permanent - it sure could change.

So, if it does change, and they break a rule here, please report them.

I honestly don’t know everything that everyone has seen. But for what it’s worth, a lot of the stuff that appeared to be things they were doing on this site was other people creating alt profiles or creating art in their name to make them look bad.

Admittedly, they make themself look bad enough without help from others. But a lot of the “stuff” that they have been credited with doing on this site were actually others doing it in their name.

When it comes right down to it, the person you’re talking about is one of the few “famous for being a problem everywhere else” people who actually did what we asked and have managed to stop breaking rules here.

If you think they’ve stolen someone’s art, or traced something - or if you see them breaking a rule on this site - please report it and we’ll look at it. But a lot of the reports I’ve worked on for this person were instances where the traced artist actually encouraged people to ‘use their art as a base’, or where the only problem was that the artists were credited in the description instead of tagging them (which appears to be a problem we have with a lot of artists who got their start on Facebook or DeviantArt).

And if you know stuff they did off of this site that should get them arrested for Celestia’s sake report it to the proper authorities. PROTIP: We are not the proper authorities.

Welp, Seb left Derpi again, explaining on Facebook that “there’s a BP that is surprised to see [him] with a link taking to the site with the fact he’s a pedo”, whatever he meant…
