-What were you doing, watching, what was your favorite thing before you discovered FiM?
Anime, Video Games, and Books. My favorite anime is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I played and still play a lot of video games, some examples include (but are not limited to) World of Warcraft, Kirby, Smash Bros, Pokemon, and Shin Megami Tensei. When it comes to books, my favorite series is the Dresden Files.
-Did you just accept FiM and its fandom right from the start, or were you in denial/against it?
I wasn’t against it. I was very hesitant when I first found out about the show, but I was also genuinely curious. As you can see, curiosity eventually won out.
-Did FiM become the top of the top of your favorite shows/other things, or are you still the biggest fan of something else?
It’s among my favorite things now. I want to say that I love all of my favorite things equally, but that seems like a cop-out.
That being said, I think it’s tied with the Warcraft series of games. Reason being that I’m invested enough in both series to have gone to conventions for both FiM and Warcraft and met their creators. Make of that what you will.
-has FiM and it’s fandom become very recurrent in your daily life?, or it hasn’t changed your daily life that much?
I’d say that it’s become very recurrent. I have framed artwork from fandom artists around my house, and I check Equestria Daily and Derpibooru on a regular basis.

My favourite show before MLP:FiM was, believe it or not, Chip ’n Dale Rescue Rangers. I wasn’t watching it because it hadn’t aired on German free TV since 2006 when I joined the online fandom. (Lucky me, it hasn’t aired on North American free TV since 1993.) But I still spent some time online with other fans, and I had gone to three “conventions” which were actually meet-ups over multiple days.
I’ve learned from CDRR that a fandom of a TV series can survive the end of the series itself given the right circumstances. And the online Rangerdom actually really kicked off years after the show itself was cancelled.
By the way, I still owe the Rangerdom a number of fanfics, some of which are in early stages of being unfinished, some still exist only in my mind.
It was kind of strange. It was so strange because the first Bronies I encountered online were Rangerphiles who had become Bronies. I watched a pony general grow in size, I saw pony in signatures left and right, and I saw fursonas being exchanged for ponysonas. This started in early 2011, if not even late 2010.
This also meant that I knew these fist Bronies in my life pretty well. I knew the hijinx they were involved in, some had produced fan content such as fanfic, so they didn’t appear weird to me or, let’s say, no weirder than usual.
At first, I wasn’t against the show or the fandom. I just didn’t want to invest time in it, seeing as it seemed to draw people away from my number one fandom which was already small in size back then. I had read about fandoms that may have died because all their fans were lured away by something newer. Besides, I wasn’t too much into 21st century animated series.
Around spring 2011, I started joking about the show and about people turning into Bronies (or rather their fursonas turning into ponysonas), but all I knew about MLP:FiM came from what other fans wrote about.
In May 2011, however, I decided that if so many people whom I knew pretty well enjoyed this show and couldn’t stop talking about it, and if it had such an enormously growing fandom overall with such increasing fan creativity, MLP:FiM couldn’t be that bad. And I could give it a try, also so that I knew what exactly everyone was talking about. One week later, I was done binging the entirety of the show (even if that was only the recently completed season 1).
…I don’t want to pit them against one another. They barely compare.
Just so much: MLP:FiM is the only thing that ever had me attend actual fan conventions. Then again, MLP:FiM is the only thing I’m a fan of that had halfway easy-to-reach fan conventions in the first place.
A bit. I sometimes wish it’d be more. The later seasons, even though I did enjoy them, had me lag behind episode watching.
That, and I should really crank up my creativity in pony music again. Dozens of ideas, but only two measly releases in almost nine months, both kind of rushed for conventions.

I was an Angry Birds fanatic and they have their own fandom just like this show from 2011 to 2014. Then they declined by 2015, that’s how I officially entered ponies thanks to Marvel.

Apart from music and video games, I would say exploitation films, especially Italian ones (the soundtracks alone are worth the time) and 80s & 90s anime.
I was hooked more or less instantly and don’t regret a single thing.
It is certainly up there but is beaten by my love for metal music, old school shmups and exploitation films.

Life seemed too tragic and unappealing for me, besides videogames like Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, food like hamburgers and chili fried and weird statements like how people shine brightly up in the sky despite not being luminous (seriously, who comes up with this stuff?). -What were you doing, watching, what was your favorite thing before you discovered FiM?
Well, keep in mind that I was only 7 when FiM premiered, so… not certain, actually. I do remember watching The Hub occasionally, but the only shows I know for certain I watched before it became the shambling corpse that is Discovery Family were Pound Puppies and Family Game Night - I never watched FiM until late last year and looking back, I really wish I watched that channel more since it was home to two shows that would become some of my favorites, those being Dan Vs. and Animaniacs. Other than that, I mainly watched cartoons and played video games… which isn’t much different than my adult life, now that I think about it.
-Did you just accepted FiM and it’s fandom right from the start, or were you in denial/against it?
I don’t think I ever really had a “anti-MLP”/“anti-brony” phase like I did for the furry fandom… if I did, I certainly don’t remember it. I definitely KNEW about it because it was basically unavoidable in the 2010s, but it was never a show I actively decided to watch (only reason I watched it in the first place was because I got curious about it while looking for Christmas gift ideas for my younger step-sis - decided to watch the first two episodes, liked what I saw, and eventually finished the first season).
-Did FiM became the top of the top of your favorite shows/other things, or are you still the biggest fan of something else?
It’s up there (got the first three seasons on DVD, and I ordered the four Equestria Girls movies), but in terms of favorite shows it’s definitely not in top 5 (those are still “Ed, Edd n Eddy”, “Invader Zim”, “Dan Vs.”, “Chowder”, and “Gravity Falls”).

I’ve read some fanfiction and I’ve installed a few pony-related mods for some of my games (L4D2 especially), but other than that I’m not a “vocal” brony (in that you won’t know that I’m a brony unless I explicitly tell you).

Before ponies was a dark time, I was still figuring out who I was, that I liked guys over girls. I was watching shows like Stargate Universe, Warehouse 13, and other sci-fi shows. I struggled mightily with depression at times, but I had things to keep me going. I played a lot of Minecraft, and a few shooters, plenty of Fallout too. Eventually I was introduced to the show while at a GSA meeting at my high school. From there I watched the first two seasons, season 3 was just coming out, and I was hooked. Now it’s part of my daily life.

Before MLP, I was into the Pokemon and furry fandom for an year and my oc back then was an Umbreon. This was back in 2009-2010 and there’s nothing too interesting about it. After leaving the fandom, I led a normal life mostly and my first exposure to MLP was Cupcakes in 2011 (literally) and it scared me back then. Sliding into 2012, a friend of mine in high school showed me MLP FiM through his phone although I wasn’t interested at first until I’ve seen a YTP of MLP FiM and then entered the pony fandom sometime during the end of 2012 and I can say for sure that I have no regrets. My oc (Target Strike) wasn’t created until either 2014/2015, but I can say is that I am glad to be part of the fandom.

Unironically ponies pretty much saved me from committing suicide back around 2013/2014, but I was heavily into things like the Sonic fandon and Minecraft beforehand… also yes, I did read sonic fanfiction too.
Aside from that and Death Note (plus any games on my DS Lite my mother would give my and my gamecube which most were sonic games which just solidified my aspie infatuation with them, I did love Nintendogs and Clubhouse Games)

I wasn’t doing much and pretty full force in the Sonic fandom around late 2000s/early 2010s. My first exposure to it was a pony porn spray on tf2 and I eventually started digging more research and save to say finding a deep web website when that was the coolest thing to me as a 13 year old and binge-watching all of the episodes back to back just made my weekend. There’s been times when it’s saved my life, when I’ve become infatuated with it, especially during a heavily suicidal phase back in early-mid 2010s.
Nowadays I still view the show, artwork, fimfictions, browse boards, etc, and I don’t know if I’ll even ever stop doing that as long as there’s at least one pony place still up.
I was at least curious but found it a tiny bit weird at first but instantly opened up and loved after the few episodes and fanart, as well with my crush on Dashie. Definitely obliterated any infatuation I had with the Sonic fandom at the time lol

Before MLP, I was the one loner kid who never really fit in with anyone else at my local public school. Pair that with having to deal with some pretty extreme mood swings beacuse of my autism, and you kinda have a recipe for being excluded by a lot of people. Luckily, I was able to switch to a charter school that only does classes in person 3 days a week, and was able to start making some friends there.
I only really started to shine though once i stumbled across the MLP fandom, which happened in late 2018 when I was forced to watch the G4 MLP movie with a few of my younger cousins. This then sorta just became a spiral into the fandom from there, and I REALLY started to show my love for the show once i met a few fellow classmates who were also fans, and well, everything past that was just kinda smooth sailing.

Before this addiction, I was totally into Star Wars and really old Sonic the Hedgehog (sega genesis / Archie comics) stuff. But the Star Wars Sequels turned me over from that franchise, and the new Sonic games just didn’t vibe with me.

Socially I was a metal head/ goth kid. I would mosh with my friends at local metal concerts, and I would dress up for a night out with my goth friends at the Industrial club, in my home town of Colorado Springs. But I moved to Florida and lost touch with the party scene.
I developed a bad internet addiction, getting lost in Webcomics like looking for group, gunnerkrigg court, ava’s demon, battle pug, star warriors, dr mcninja, etc. I was actually thinking of starting my own webcomic, but I’m not that talented, it’s a lot of work.
It was 2017, and My Little Pony season 4-5 was playing on netflix, the first 3 seasons weren’t on there for some reason, I drunkly watched and found a love for everything about it. The animation style, the story arcs, the character developments, the humor. It stole my heart. I started stumbling on mlp Youtube content and fall down this pony hole.

About April 2020 My cousin said her son liked MLP. I started watching FiM, and I was O B S E S S E D and LOVED RD. I loved the messages about making friends, and it made me really happy since I was going through a sad time in 2020. OTHER FACT: Once when I was a bit younger I was given a Princess Celestia toy and threw it away. Gosh I regret that now 🤦

During the 2000s (before MLP FiM came to fruition) I grew up with Pokemon, Digimon, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Televisa. I’ve also went to school and played video games, played outside of my house or maybe the park or watch TV when there wasn’t much to do. In the later parts of the 2000s, I also created a YouTube account back in 2008 (I discovered YouTube back in 2006) and watched a lot of YTPs, Gmod and SpongeBob edited episodes back then on the platform and then became part of the Pokemon and furry fandom for only a year in 2009-2010. I only did rps back then mostly during my time there, but I lost interest in the beginning of 2011 and left it altogether and did not return to a fandom until 2012 when I entered the pony fandom near the end of that year. If I am being honest, I can say that the pony fandom helped me find my place and I don’t know where I would’ve been today without it.
