The Cure - One Hundred Years, The Hanging Tree, The Figurehead and Pornography
From the fourth album by the English (From Crawley, West Sussex) Gothic rock/Post punk band, “Pornography” (1982)
An unrelentingly dark record (even for a band as gloomy as they were early on), reflecting a tough time the band were facing due to intraband conflict, heavy drug use, and frontman Robert Smith’s depression (The latter of which really reflects in the lyrics on the songs). The issues nearly lead to the breakup of the band, but after about half a year’s break, they reconvened to record their next album, 1983’s “The Top”. The band are still touring and recording to this day, and are due to release their latest album this November.
