What happened now?

The whole IT server crashed and went BSOD.

Ultimately caused global disruptions in flight, business, and about almost everything that uses that software for their everyday lives.

My bro has Asus laptop that runs Windows 11 for 3 years. He had a mini heart attack from that BSOD from outta nowhere even if his laptop doesn’t had issues.

I’ve noticed that extra hint of crappiness on internet performance recently.

Its in general not been a good month for Microsoft especially when it comes to their Xbox services right now, constant problems & outages on all platforms; not just on their consoles.

What the fuck is a CrowdStrike?

The long and short of it is that it’s a security program used globally by various corps and government agencies.

It does a lot, but it’s biggest feature is protecting networks from DDOS attacks.

The problem is they pushed a patch with a major corrupted file that’s locking Windows PCs into a boot cycle.

I’ve heard about their fuck up on a WTM server I’m part of

I’m not sure what happened but as a Microsoft user I haven’t experienced anything off. Still that sounds something that Microsoft would do; a mistake that fucks up the entire globe.

It’s mostly affecting big corporations and government agencies. Crowdstrike isn’t really a consumer level program.

This CrowdStrike thing also affected my area as well. The gas station around the corner from where I live had its credit card machines down so they were only accepting cash. The dollar store next to it wasn’t affected and accepted card payments just fine.

To be clear he’s invited to vent all he wants here, but the internet is a part of the problem.

To be equally clear, I’m not denying him his right to vent. I’m merely making the suggestion to take a break from the Internet (mostly Twatter, which seems to be the big source of his gripes.)

Yeah by this point, a break from the Internet is really his best resort cause it’s clear that ALL of his vents has been Internet related and he doesn’t know when to unplug or click off

My least favorite of my family’s pugs bit me in the fucking chin.

All because I tried to get into the garage and he happened to declare that area as his personal domain or some shit…

And Fuckbook comes back and says I didn’t furnish the info they needed so they can’t process my request (maybe because their system couldn’t find the content, because they removed it and all I had was a screencap and the url to the group it was in!).
I’m wishing bad things onto them and Meta right now.

If he ever tries that shit again, I’m chucking that little fucker out of the house.

Nowadays everybody asks for cloud computing. When companies get a hand of a new technology specially one that gives them a lot of administrative control they get nuts. You can see that whenever you are job hunting in software engineering.

So the moment the servers have a seizure, it can ruin even an entire workday at best. That’s why desktop programs and apps will never become irrelevant. Open source programs can also work well even with less features because if the communications get fucked, open source desktop programs will remain operational until the servers get fixed. And while not perfect I’ll give Steam credit for still giving an offline option for single player games so you can still play without internet.

What bothers me is if they didn’t test the anti-virus update in test computers before making it official.
