Unpopular opinion time (super alpha no pony edition)

People have little capacity to pick their battles. Not just physical altercations, I think people couldn’t even know when the conflict has little benefit to indulge in and the conflict itself is meager and not worth the effort.

Same thing why creepypastas became a thing, the idea of a kid friendly property turning all “shocking” and “disturbing” was a big novelty that drew people in.

The notion fanfiction writers and readers are only women seems to be greatly exaggerated.

If you go on Pokemon, One Piece or Dragon Ball, youll know theres plenty of fanfics that appeals to guys.

The harem fanfic is popular where every girl falls for the hero even if hes supposed to not care. Also the betrayal fanfic where his friends turn on him for no good reason. I guess power fantasy and revenge is the key indicator.

But the point is guys do write fanfics and they can equally make just as many cringy fanfics as girls.

I may have read shipfics that demonizes the “lesser love rival”, but even as a kid at least I didnt resort to the harem fic. I wasnt that far gone.

“All fanfic writers are girls” is a meme/stereotype that was pretty popular in the old era of the Internet, or even older if you count all the original Star Trek fanfics made during the shows original run

Also as the article says there is done truth to it, apparently studies say that women are more likely to get involved with literary work then men

I was actually gonna comment the same thing about this notion but than Sarah from The Amazing World of Gumball came to my mind.

Tumblr’s actually pretty chill nowadays. I use it occasionally to check up on more of my niche interests because the communities on there tend to be smaller and more close knit than bigger social medias.

That’s kind of what Tumblr has always been for me, a place for niche stuff I can’t get from anywhere else. Although I kind of stopped going there, I feel like I should go back.

Hindsight can make you feel smart if you predicted something bad would happen and you could say I told you so.

Like if you see the telltale signs of a movie being bad even when others see it as a positive.

And that’s the problem. Nobody cares if you predict a success. But if you already know something was gonna get wrong NOT because of mumbo jumbo magic but because you already saw something similar before, you are in a lose-lose situation.

1.- You say it and then you are seen as crazy.
2.- You say it and now you are a doomer.
3.- You don’t say it and then when it happens people lose their heads.
4.- You lie to save face and then join the trainwreck.
5.- Yo got it wrong (that’s also always a possibility) and you become a pariah.

Though on the 2nd point if youre in the right community it can feel fun to critique a movie. The Emoji Movie may have been terrible but people were mostly united in hating on it.

It’s only funny when everybody can see it. Not so much when you are virtually alone.

Besides, from the get go the Emoji Movie was crying for relevance.

True, but is it worse than being a 4th grader who can’t die?

I remember there was an infamous review by Kotaku that was Sorry The Minecraft Movie Isn’t For You where it basically posited that the fans are angry unreasonably because the movie seems to be fun for the kid demographic especially the writers own son had fun with it.

And while its obvious how out of touch he was, I think it actually gives an oppurtunity to point this hot take out.

Reviews are meant for the adults. Or specifically the discering adult.

Kids will love anything. Actually some for adults who often can easily love what can be considered trashy entertainment (like many adults probably liked Grown Ups 2).

My point is that the audiences love for something isn’t always a sign of quality. The critical viewers have a job that no other audience member has the burden of.

The staff who makes this stuff are adults after all and I know not everything they do is just to play their audience but to also show their own filmmaking skills.

Lets be blunt. Writers can make any movie and kids would love it. So its the job of a writer to make it good. Not just for the kids, not just for the adult fans, but also for their own reputation and just for the honor of filmmaking.

Chart videos that talk about UK hits not becoming hits in the US and vice versa and arguing which of the two countries have better music tastes? Why not just like both, that isn’t illegal right?

Pigeons are adorable.

You can keep many as pets too.

I remember watching a pigeon movie as a kid about WWII carrier pigeons.

So I see them as great and I like their plumage.
