Unpopular opinion time (super alpha no pony edition)

While I do think paying for a service is still ideal because production values still require the workers to get compensation, piracy is often used as an excuse for failures, but the truth is that piracy is actually more of a consequences of different problems regarding media:

1.- Many times people piracy something because they just cannot pay by three or four streaming services. Many times is hard to even keep a monthly payment of one single streaming service, two if you want to be generous, and worse of all, more often than not it’s only for one or two specific shows. But with many shows are spread around different services this becomes an issue. Which wouldn’t be as bad if weren’t also because…
2.- Nowadays people are just not happy with many shows and movies. Audience reactions have become much harder to please. If a show has a bad rap but you don’t want to be seen as someone giving monetary support yet you still feel like you need to justify your dislike, watching 1 or 2 episodes from non paid sources its convenient. And regardless of opinion and dramas, that’s also why yt channels of reviews have become so popular, the lack of trust in media means people are much less keen to watch something they need to pay for blindly.
3.- I don’t know how things work in the USA, but the land of the apple pie isn’t the center of the universe, countries with harsher economies because of X or Y reason would already suffer paying for an expensive stream service only for a single show. Is not like videogames where the expenses are merely the device and the specific games. As such they are more liable to watch stuff online, and if it is for a show they love but the regional block forbids the show that should be on the same platform then the incentives to resort to free sites increases.
4.- When you deal with dead IP’s or stuff with broken shared rights, the fact they literally stop appearing in the market means they’re not profiting from said thing anyway. If it’s not on the market anyway then shows and games are fair to download.

You’re forgetting the most quintessential thing of all that stands above all those: simply archiving. Studios and particularly streaming studios aren’t exactly keen on keeping any shows going and they’re most likely not archiving them completely. Or they’re not broadcasting anything in their entirety or in original form. Netflix is already accused of altering the original Avatar for reasons by removing the PG-13 sex scene. And I know for a fact there’s episodes missing from the seasons of Mad Men you can watch on Netflix. And once media is removed from streaming, where do they go? Is anyone keeping copies? It’s already considered too expensive to keep extra hospital beds on stand by to open up emergency capacity

This is why I buy physical media (i.e.: DVDs and Blu-rays) whenever possible. When a show or movie is taken off a streaming service but is still available physically, I don’t have to worry about missing out because I own a copy (or two or three) of said show or movie. Plus, the picture and sound is better on Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray than it is on streaming. Nothing like watching Lord of the Rings on 8 million pixels and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, it was like watching it on DVD for the first time (back when that format was considered cool by everyone.)

I think wearing flag themed cloths, having a flag on your house, or just have national flags themed items around the house is tacky instead of “patriotic.”

Bookshelves aren’t super expensive at Walmart, and only require minimal assembly with a hammer and Phillips’ head screwdriver.

Also, it doesn’t mean that EVERY older movie is worth owning. Only a handful are worth owning.

That second point is debatable. I do get the sense that more and more people are putting their trust more on reviewers and review aggregator sites for basically everything, but that doesn’t mean that people aren’t happy with any shows or movies that are premiering. Why do you think the concept of reviews even exist in the first place? They can help in gauging a sense on the quality of a work and if it is worth checking out. Puss In Boots The Last Wish wouldn’t have its status as a modern beloved movie if it wasn’t for the glowing praise showered by critics, or modern cartoons like Smiling Friends.

I know there are successes.
But honestly from what I’ve seen some people also have become much more exigent. I ain’t interested in what people watch but producers and directors do care and sadly they’re the ones calling the shots and handling the cash, nothing I can do there.

I wish there was a Bluey or MLP or Sofia the First for an adult audience.

As in something in the lines of a PG-13/R version of Bluey or MLP or Sofia the First.

Something that people are allowed to do NSFW art or fanfics or any fan labor of since apparently the internet is not allowed to do NSFW content of kids properties (while hypocritically shit like Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, Bayformers, Mr. Osomatsu, iCarly 2021, Power Rangers 2017 and Kamen Rider Amazons exist even if they’re based on kids properties as well)

Not gonna hide behind my pride on this one. Centaur World helped me with my persistent idealizations of suicide _{[warning - everyone except for 1 character in this clip has committed suicide and is being digested in the belly of a whale that is ‘consuming their pain’]}.

I probably listen to that song once a week or so. Sometimes on infinite repeat. And, of course, my lovely spouse spends her Centaur World time dealing with her anxiety disorder, so … yeah.

It’s a lot like MLP in that way - lots of individual things that absolutely fix me. But also funny as snot. And really good messages for kids! _{[warning: literally war crimes].}

Also great hippy tree songs _{[warning: angelic tree music referring to violence to trees].}

It’s the show that just keeps giving! And also manages to check all the boxes of any great broadway musical. Like making sure they say the name of the show in the song. I’d link to the example I’m referring to, but a) Spoilers and b) I don’t feel like crying this morning.

Fanfiction and fanart (or fan labor/fan content/in general) should exist (idk what the right word is) in real life.

As in, fanfics in libraries or book stores (I know there will be copyright problems unless they’re doujins and stuff), free fanart that you don’t have to go to a convention to get free fanart instead of paying money for it (signature or not), etc.

Just in case people force others to get off the internet (let alone social media) and touch grass.
