What if the fans became toxic?
 
What is a good way to criticize the toxic fans without lumping in with people displeased with the product? (Because at this point lumping in toxic fans with critical fans is what is considered “insulting the fans”)
 
And what if the people making them are just human beings?

Separating them is a great start. And no, saying the fans who don’t like it into that category isn’t correct since you can dislike or even hate something and not be toxic, and like/love something and be toxic by forcing your opinions on others and attacking those who disagree with you.
 
Start by understanding that people can not like something you do and not be toxic is a great start, since it sounds like you have a mindset of “don’t agree with mean = toxic.” How else am I to interpret you lumping them together?
 
So are the those with actual criticisms you are lumping into those harassing others, as well as the harassers themselves. Humans make mistakes or are given roles they shouldn’t be given, so criticizing them isn’t bad. You can criticizes people without bulling them. Sadly, if our past encounters are anything to go but, you learning this is a gamble that isn’t in my favor.

It’s funny. People complain about characters in fiction having to learn the same lessons over and over again, but people repeat the same mistakes all the time in the real world.
