A work with some referent in its title means that that referent is consequential in some way. If a title refers to an inconsequential character, what was the point of the title? You don’t see the series titled Ba Sing Se, or else we’d be more limited in what parts of the world are shown to us. Point is, the title has to have unity with the content, as it comes with certain expectations that need to be dealt with, or more broadly, a consequence of one choice is the limiting of other choices.

Overall, I’d watch a Toph series, but I’d rename the franchise to something like, I don’t know, “Four Nations” or something.

If they wanted to retitle a spinoff of the Avatar franchise,I think they could. There was that recent Harley Quinn movie that didnt have her name,or Batman,or Suicide Squad in the title. No one seemed confused by it. Although I don’t follow DC stuff, so I dunno, maybe some people were confused by it.

Birds of Prey? Part of the DC Universe, right? That’s the thing: DC is a general enough name for a franchise to center around any consequential character in a series/film.

You do realize, again, that The Legend of Korra didn’t have the “Avatar” prefix, right?
 
(I think in some ads, it was referred to as Avatar: The Legend of Korra, but the official series was just The Legend of Korra, so the name doesn’t factor into it as much as you are insinuating.)

Exactly, or that Harley Quinn animated series. Clearly they have the abilities to do this, so I don’t know why they won’t leap at this opportunity to make something both successful and beloved.

I don’t know anything about DC.the only character of theirs I kinda like is Captain Marvel,who wasn’t even originally theirs. I still haven’t seen Shazam.

Well, speaking of that, it was kind of a bad timing to release a movie in a time where the political gender stigma is still going since 2016.
 
I liked it, but it has some flaws.

Then why is every series-wide central character an Avatar? Since a) the Avatar, in this franchise, is someone with a particular skill set, b) the franchise is named for such a character, and c) both existing series revolve around such a character, a future series is more likely to make the main character an Avatar than not for the sake of unity. That’s simply a consequence when a franchise is named for a character (type).

We should change this, then. I am honestly kind of burned out on stuff about the avatars, especially since it’s not looking like this new series is going to be any better than Korra.
 
There are so many interesting characters and parts of the world to focus on–the Sun Warriors, for example, who I don’t think have ever come back since “The Firebending Masters”–but if you insist, then we’ll only ever keep rehashing the same stories again and again and again and again and again.
