Thoughts on the Law of Attraction

So I’m mulling over some of my old college days, and I have recently been considering one of the movies we watched: The Secret, a “documentary” based on the Law of Attraction. In retrospect, the concept is largely bullshit and the testing behind it seems mostly to rely on logical fallacies…but what fascinates me is how adamant these people are about the idea. I can usually tell when someone is BS-ing me for some reason, but these people seemed legitimately convinced that the law of attraction was not only real, but scientifically absolute, as real as the laws of freaking gravity. They even claimed they had a historical basis for the origins of the law despite there being no real evidence of anything, historical OR scientific.
 
Thoughts on the Law of Attraction, the Secret, and why so many apparently successful people are convinced this is the real deal when literally NOTHING about it can be tested?

It’s one of those think-good and be motivated sort of theories. Something of a “spiritual” of psuedo-quasi-science “Fell Good” book and documentary. Pretty sure it’s really aimed at people with people without aspiration because they feel powerless.
 
In reality, I think that the thinking positive and dreaming aspect makes you aspire more for greatness which is more the catch. But if you simply tell people this you won’t sell. So dress it up with spirituality and meta-science and add some history and Eastern Wisdom and it’ll sell.

Aah, so there IS some legitimacy to the idea of positive thinking, they just needed to use a spoonful of sugar.

Pretty damn sure that’s what it is.
 
It’s really all it is. Teaching people to aspire in an avante-garde way who are apathetic, lazy, and aren’t positive. It sells easy to people like my little brother.

I’m unfamiliar with the “law of attraction”. Would you fill me in?
