That not the only thing they did. They turn it from a classic sci-fi noir anime into just another overtop Hollywood action film similar to Death Note. It also became a hypocritical statement for a certain actress that was just S-shaming based on looks, but had no problem acting like one.

I love how prequel defenders keep using the “it goes against Lucas’s vision” against the sequels because the sequels retconed a few things
The original trilogy was already retconning itself by the second fucking movie
