Unpopular nerd opinion. I’ve actually rather enjoyed Rings of Power.

I’d you’re expecting an accurate portrayal of the 2nd age that feels like it was pulled from the Silmarillion, you’ll be disappointed.

If you’re just wanting a decent fantasy show that feels Tolkien enough to still fit the setting, it actually pulls that off pretty well. I’ve had fun watching it, and am looking forward to season 2 finishing.

I respect your opinion. Honestly, you could say something similar (to varying degrees) about Jackson’s two movie trilogies as well. Making something 100% in line with what Tolkien wrote strikes me as borderline impossible, and if you did pull it off I’m not sure the finished product would be anywhere as good as the ones that do take a few liberties with the material.

Heck, Tolkien himself would probably agree with that. I own a book of his correspondence, and as I recall there’s a letter in there he wrote discussing the possibility of his work being adapted to film, where he basically comes out and says he doesn’t mind changes so long as the important themes and ideas remain intact.

I remember when Jim Starlin, the guy who created Thanos, said he got paid more for KGBeasts cameo in Batman vs Superman then he did for Thanos’s whole apperance across the MCU
