The music video for the Dire Straits song “Money for Nothing” was made using CG animation by Gavin Blair and Ian Pearson, who would later go on to found the computer animation studio Mainframe Entertainment. The video featured two characters who were hardware department store workers and would lip-sync the lyrics.
The same two characters would also briefly appear in an episode of the Mainframe show Reboot, where they show up at a talent show and are boo-ed offstage. This was because, at the time, the founders of Mainframe were mostly still known as “those guys who did the Money for Nothing music video” and weren’t happy about it.
