In my desktop, yes. Still runs everything just fine, and performs very well in games with Vulkan. The main bottlenecks in my desktop are the RAM (8Gb DDR3 1866Mhz) and GPU (GTX 970 3.5Gb).

An update to my personal rig:

All that is hooked up to a 43” LG 4K Ultra HD TV and a Yamaha ATS-1050 soundbar.

Not bad. Built an X570 system for someone so they’d have decent future-proofing. How many USB-C headers does your board have?

As far as I can tell, my mobo doesn’t have USB-C headers or ports on the rear I/O. Plenty of USB 3.0+ ports, though.

Ah ok. That’s one of my [personal] pet peeves with the lower AMD chipsets. I try and get systems for my clients that have USB-C/ThunderBolt, because I know it’ll save me a lot of hassle down the line when it comes to backing up and transferring their systems.

I built a SFF to use as a secondary/travel rig. Got some good deals on eBay as well as using some parts I had lying around.

-Gigabyte H270N-Wifi motherboard
-i5-6400 (I could’ve done better with this, but I was being cheap.)
-Zotac GTX 1060 6GB
-16 GB DDR4-2133 RAM (went with a single stick, because I’m being cheap.)
-Crucial MX500 1TB SSD
-Thermaltake Core IV

Unlike in my main rig, this one does have a single USB-C port on the mobo’s I/O.

I use prebuild but still consider my whole setup a rig, the components are carefully selected.

I like low powered, cheap, small things. It’s my work hardware too. I got a backup laptop.

I set game settings down low to keep everything cool and cheap. I like my 1080p and 60fps though.

If I want a better PSU I got to get it from HP, motherboard won’t even take standard PSU. Only worthwhile thing to do is get another 8 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM, and use it until it dies.

I matched and doubled the ram for Dual channel. Didn’t even need to match the brand, i knew exactly what I was doing.

The power difference is crazy. Because the RAM was barebones when i got it, now I got the ram it was really designed for.

I got wallpaper engine for animated backgrounds. Partly because I am worried about my computer going too ice cold the moment i turn off a heavy game. Return of the screensaver too <3

I really want my desktop to feel oldschool, but I admit, i like a lot of the new things.

I got an update for my BIOS. Now my computer finally has motherboard lock (it’s my old runescape bank pin)

I payed very little for a lot of power my computer setup is hovering around 1k, and the monitor itself was 300$ (pen display)

I’ll bump this now, but I built a new PC recently.

Pretty good, should last me awhile. AMD is supporting it till at least 2025. I went from my Intel i7 4790k, I had the previous PC for 9 years haha.

Also those nvme drives are super fast, I’m never going back to HDDs. They’re even faster than your old sata SSDs.

I’m never using a disk again. 3d nAND is amazing.

I got two m2 256gb 3dnand for booting and backing up work. Both my computers have one. Then 1tb WD Blue SATA 3dnand.

My main computer doesn’t even have a disk drive. I only want to use flash now. I know about the wear cycling thing, but disk where already shitty, flash is less shitty and more consistent.

M.2 are flash, they use the PCIe bus. And yeah, they allow for even faster speeds than SATA SSDs, for example the NVMe drives I use go up to 5GB/s.

M2 faster than SATA is a small difference compared to flash being way faster than disk. I’m not really caring about the port in this post.

My sata ssd can go faster than that.

Regular flash is just 2d nand.

Like m2 is great. But no port is going to make a HD faster than flash.

I’m not using sata because I prefer it to nnvm, I’m using it because it exists alongside nvme on my motherboard. I got both nvme flash and sata 3dnand.

I built a computer back in 2022 and doubled the RAM over Christmas just because. Everything has been working flawlessly. These are my current parts:

Is Windows 11 worth the upgrade? I’ve gotten the offer from Microsoft for a free upgrade a few times and declined because 10 seems fine to me.

NVME drives are excellent. Easy installation with no wires, small size, and blazing speed. I see no reason to use old disk drives anymore unless one needs an excessive amount of storage.

Yeah Goku is right. It’s fine, but more or less just Windows 10.2. I didn’t pay full price for it though.

For sure. 5GB/s is just insane. I have 3TB and honestly that’s enough for what I play.

My drives are only 3.5GB/s but that’s fast enough. They never feel slow.

It cost about $100 to get Windows 10 on a thumb drive. Is there a cheaper legit way?
