How did Tokka go from being a popular Avatar ship in its original run, to being one of the most hated ships now that it’s on Netflix?

It annoys me, really. Like, I look up “ship Tokka” on Twitter and over half of the posts are antis.

Someone people seem to think that non-canon ships (or just ships that they don’t ship as I’ve experienced with Fluttercord shippers being dicks in Dislestia images comment sections) somehow threatens the canonicity of their ships.
