Glad I got to see them at least once. At the time I was skeptical whether Collins still had the drum chops but I was blown away when he and Chester Thompson synced up. Another memorable moment was seeing him get in character as the creeper when they performed “Mama”.

Guys, I think I’m more into movies now, I lost interest in music. Gonna go unsubscribe from this thread now, I had a good time on this thread.

As for music surprises and general music awesomeness? Too much to count!
For me, a great development is that Def Leppard will be releasing a new album in May

It’s actually a reference to a lyric in T. Rex’s song “Bang A Gong (Get It On)”, which is also pretty cool!

Pretty much the whole band are fans of classic 70s glam rock

I know, I’m a fan of Def Leppard as well but either way, tell me I’m wrong and say that that wouldn’t be a great band name?

You’re not wrong! Diamond Star Halos is about as cool a band name as their original band name before they became Deaf Leopard and then Def Leppard, Atomic Mass. These guys seemingly have the gift for coming up with great band names.

I just realized something.
The main character in Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory by Dream Theater is named Nicolas. The main character in Operation: Mindcrime by Queensrÿche is named Nikki, which can also be spelled Nicky, an abbreviation for Nicolas. Also, one of the major characters in Metropolis Pt. 2 is a politician who turns out to be corrupt, and the main villain in Operation: Mindcrime is also a corrupt political revolution leader.
If I had a nickel for every prog metal rock opera that featured a corrupt political leader and a main character named Nicolas/Nikki, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.

I’d say it’s all thanks to Joe Elliott, who came up with the “Deaf Leopard” band name in the first place, I think while he was doodling band logos in his notebook at school

Queensryche did it first! Nearly 30 years before DT. And Operation:Mindcrime is not just a story. It’s a first-person narrative of said corrupt political leader. It’s a psychological thriller of sorts. Great album. But the actual main villain in that story is Dr. X, who briefly takes over the narrative in the title track.

Eleven years before, TBF—Mindcrime was in 1988, Metropolis Pt. 2 was in 1999. Still damn good, though, and I know the plot of both albums. :)

I was disappointed that Gojira didn’t win for metal Grammy but good on Dream Theater on their track Alien

Frankly, I don’t find Dream Theater’s new album amusing than Gojira’s new album tbh.

Fortitude is such an incredible album and one of the best of 2021 in metal.
