Four that stand out for me are:
- Seeing Neil Young live with my parents back in 2008. Of course he played Like A Hurricane and Cinnamon Girl!
- Seeing a Jimi Hendrix tribute show with my father in 2010 which included well known performers such as Steve Vai and Billy Cox, a bass player who was Jimi’s friend from his paratrooper days who played with Hendrix in Band Of Gypsys and a later incarnation of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. I took a photo with Billy at the end of the show
- Seeing Vanilla Fuge at Ottawa CityFolk in 2016. I was front row in the audience, rocked out to songs such as You Keep Me Hangin’ On, and took some great photos of them performing
- Seeing Def Leppard with a friend back in 2019. They were at the time gearing up for a residency in Las Vegas, and their opening act was Tesla. We Rock Rocked Til We Dropped!
Oh, and also seeing Mötley Crüe back in 2015.
Back when they were supposed to be calling it quits…

I like Gospel by Mike Geno. It catchy.

Oh, speaking of Musk’s Twitter gimmick, turns out he’s gonna have a hard time rebranding Twitter X in Japan because of this band. Lmao

Agree with you 100%. Small venues are most definitely better. And typically, those shows are a lot cheaper too.

In terms of special effects, nothing tops the time I saw Pink Floyd. But being in nosebleed in a 80000-seat arena meant that binoculars were necessary to watch the actual band perform. And the Pontiac Silverdome had terrible acoustics.
Heh, love it when they’re sauced. Speaking of Finnish Metal groups, Sentenced was my favorite drunk band show. Dude had a beer bottle in his hand the whole set. Then before they played “Nepenthe” he’s like, “This next song, is about drinking!” as he’s pointing to his bottle looking good and sloshed. I miss those guys.

No doubt your parents surely love that you love the same music they do. ;-) Can definitely see Def Leppard being fun.

I also think the 90’s are honestly overrated in everything
Well there was tons of overrated music in the 90’s to be sure.
this is making me feel a bit alienated
Sorry. That talk about Woodstock got me all nostalgic. I know how I must sound. OLD!!! Small comfort I suppose that I’m not stuck in that decade like others my age.

Damn. Losing Draiman like that would be terrible. The dude is a warrior. I didn’t know he still had those sort of issues.

I normally don’t care about rap/hip hop but I heard about Travis Scott’s new album and him sampling Gentle Giant’s Proclamation in the opening track. There was some thread about this on ProgArchives today.
While I don’t give a shit about Travis Scott or his music, it is kinda cool to see prog rock being sampled in modern rap music, and this isn’t the first time I heard Gentle Giant sampled into rap music (I know Madvillain sampled Funny Ways). And of course there’s that song by Kanye West sampling King Crimson’s 21st Century Schizoid Man.

Man, I swear, it gets so confusing sometimes having what basically amount to two music threads (this and the “What Are You Listening To” thread). I guess sometimes my brain just convinces itself “Well, it says Music Thread, so this must be the thread to post the music I listen to in it” before realizing my mistake. At least it’s still uncommon

@Mellow Rhythm
I think your post in the other thread fits here too, most of the posts in “what are you listening” are direct with what they hear, I see that you put a macro information about what you hear, that is very interesting.

True. When it comes to “full album” posts, I do like to add a little detail about the artist/bands, as well as fun facts. I have to say, it is a good way of sharing my knowledge and invested interest in the music!

Okay, but the AI Cover of Mr. Krabs singing Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald actually goes pretty hard.

I don’t complain about what time period I was born in, but the whole discourse was making me feel bad that I wasn’t born in the 80’s or somewhere over there to really feel the 90’s and 2000’s, but I guess God decided to have me be in the late 90’s. Either way, I’m happy to be in an era where I have all these resources at my disposal to find music easily and experience it other sounds and genres and such.
