Who knew that a band who made a hit about cannibalism would spawn off a pretty solid AOR type band in the late 70’s and early 80’s, one that even opened for Queen in their “The Game” tour in 1980?

If you like slick and polished AOR rock like a low tier Boston or a high tier Journey, then you’ll like this band. I checked them out and like I said, they’re pretty solid.

I had never heard of Dakota or The Buoys until just now.

I’m curious. What do you consider top/high tier AOR?

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - a helluva great 70s rock group! Highly recommended, gang. Highly recommended.

Boston, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, 38 Special, Honeymoon Suite, Little River Band, REO Speedwagon. It’s just bands that I personally like

Yeah I’ve heard of most of them but never listened to them a lot except Boston. I’ve heard Here I Go Again, Caught up in you, Photograph, all of which are okay. For me, it’d be Kansas (though they weren’t AOR as much as they were prog rock until Monolith) and Toto.

There probably is. I know David Coverdale from Deep Purple was in Whitesnake. What album by Whitesnake should I start with?

I know you didn’t ask me, but I’m a big Whitesnake fan and this is my kind of territory. I’d start out with the their 1987 self-titled album and work your way up from there. If you don’t mind simpler, bluesy hard rock, also try their earlier albums: Slide It In and Lovehunter are good ones to check out, as well as Ready An’ Willing

When it comes to recommending music, I always say to start at the first album and work from there, but my personal favorites are Come An’ Get It, Saints & Sinners, Slide It In and their self titled album.

If you’re talking about albums, the top 3 for me (in no particular order) would be: Purple Rain, Super Fly and Shaft.

Any depressing raw, depressing post punk albums recommendations. Preferably something that sounds like it was recorded in a washing machine
